Hurricane Rita Live Thread, Part VI
NHC - NOAA ^ | 23 September 2005 | NHC - NOAA

Posted on 09/23/2005 9:39:06 AM PDT by NautiNurse

Dangerous Hurricane Rita is expected to make landfall in the northeast Gulf of Mexico within 24 hours. Tornados have spawned in Louisiana. Water is filling the Ninth Ward of New Orleans again. A bus carrying elderly evacuees was gutted by fire this morning outside Dallas, with multiple fatalities. Television crews have positioned their hurricane reporters throughout the region to attain maximum drama effects. Whoooooa.

David Gregory looks like a monkey.

He acts like one too.

Wow.

No, not even a strong breeze here. We've been out in the driveway watching people walk past.

Nothing's ever perfect, but what we're seeing in Texas are competant people managing the evacution and working with the Feds rather than obstruct.

I'm just grateful that, so far, Shep and Geraldo are keeping the drama notched down. Though the storm has barely begun to hit.

Will it be too deep if it goes over their heads and washes them away?

There arrogance in the light of mother nature in all its force is stunning.

Looks like a Louisiana landfall, so the surge will be to their east primarily. Still, not too smart. Trees could block their escape and they could easily get caught if it pours over the wall.

We had been thinking of going to a video store and renting a bunch of Eastwood, Bronson, and John Wayne westerns to watch for the weekend

Great choices too. Are ya'll in the path of this storm?

A tsunami on top of the storm surge...hmmm.

We had a few sprinkles earlier this evening. Not enough to get the sidewalk wet. Now there isn't even a breeze.

So far this is really anticlimactic.

I thought that Geraldo has a brother on his production team? At least he used to.
