Dangerous Hurricane Rita is expected to make landfall in the northeast Gulf of Mexico within 24 hours. Tornados have spawned in Louisiana. Water is filling the Ninth Ward of New Orleans again. A bus carrying elderly evacuees was gutted by fire this morning outside Dallas, with multiple fatalities. Television crews have positioned their hurricane reporters throughout the region to attain maximum drama effects. Whoooooa.

Once again, Blanco's office botched it. ;)
Hi sweetir...how you doing.
Either I've gone totally insane or nothing you've said in this post is true. 1) Allison came right in over Galveston, it didn't affect anything east of Houston. 2) We didn't get any hurricane in 2003, we haven't been hit by any sort of a serious hurricane since Alicia.
Have you tried Google Earth yet...I love it.
The pressure is still in the 4 category, though the winds are in the 3 category. I wonder what's up with that.
I'm up towards Kountze. All (or most) of the emergency management folks from Pt. Arthur and surrounding areas are using the Lumberton high school and middle school as a staging area until Rita passes through. If you get into trouble, I could go tell them as soon as the storm has passed. Do you have a cell phone or land line to call for help? And are you using a laptop with dialup or cable modem? IOW, do you have a way to get online to send me a message?

the natives are getting restless
The neighbors that are left....LOL, whatcha do with the neighbors???
I enjoyed the pics,as did my husband. Thanks for breaking some of the tension.
Local news in Central Fla. says we are to conserve energy because 1/3 of Florida's power plants use natural gas for energy.
Yes, they do.
I love MAPS.
Here is a good one of Louisiana
http://www.sitesatlas.com/Maps/Maps/LA1.htm
After one elderly uncle in Mississipi had a tree fall on his house during Katrina, now I'm worried about another elderly uncle and some cousins in Houston. I'm not as worried about them now as I was yesterday morning, when the storm was 175mph and headed straight for Galveston, but even so...
They waited too late to try to leave, and my uncle and one cousin live within a few blocks of each other in Northwest Houston, according to Mapquest (I've never been to Texas),inside the beltway in what looks like someplace very close to a place called Jersey Village. Would you happen to know if that's a flood prone area or what sort of part of town that is?
Did a Fox producer tell Rick to change his hat? He had it on backwards but now has a hat with the bill in the front that says Fox news. I want to see Shep put his hat on backwards.
Well, you can count on them seizing on the evac. Lets see, how can they blame that on FEMA? Ah yes, where were the pre-positioned fuel trucks?
Does this mean Texas City may fare okay, too?
Do you know how close that is to Hwy 61 and 42? That's the area where my brothers live.
What did Shep do now?
They are convinced the landfall is east and all will be fine. I keep thiking on the hard and long rain that is going to fall all over the place down there.
Projections for that have not changed, have they?
It's bull, didn't happen, don't know where BD is getting his facts.
