Hurricane Rita Live Thread, Part VI
NHC - NOAA ^ | 23 September 2005 | NHC - NOAA

Posted on 09/23/2005 9:39:06 AM PDT by NautiNurse

Dangerous Hurricane Rita is expected to make landfall in the northeast Gulf of Mexico within 24 hours. Tornados have spawned in Louisiana. Water is filling the Ninth Ward of New Orleans again. A bus carrying elderly evacuees was gutted by fire this morning outside Dallas, with multiple fatalities. Television crews have positioned their hurricane reporters throughout the region to attain maximum drama effects. Whoooooa.

FYI The mosquito spraying is done on a large scale, by military operation to ward off disease. FEMA took care of that for us after Floyd...with all the standing water, it was an imperative health concern.

Can we give Louisiana to Canada in exchange for Alberta and a province to be named later?

(I don't know how to just post a "general" reply to "All" without latching on to the last number wherever I am - is there some way to do that, or am I OK?)

Finally finished my HurrRita "things to do" list, except 4 things I decided against doing.

Anyway, it now looks like I'll probably get 65 mph winds, 4" of rain - and just this minute, our local Ch. 2 TV met said he is now reasonably certain that Rita will not be looping back to sit on top of us and dump 2 feet of rain, here. She will probably do that in E TX in forward motion, he says.

Yikes, I'm in such a time warp from all this hurricane prep work and just 24/7 Rita coverage I've been totally concentrating upon, that I thought today was Saturday! I went to my college football forum to see what the score of our game is, lol! Not only do we NOT play on FRIDAYS, OU doesn't play this weekend at all.

*breathing a big sigh of relief* Now I think I can relax--till the power goes out and the potty stops working.

Best of luck to greene66 (no relation) and all those who are in more of harm's way than we are here!

Are you getting any wind over there? It's blowing pretty good here. For the past hour we've had some strong gusts.

It looks like it is going more north than west, and headed for the TX/LA border.

However, it's been pointed out to me by neighbors that if'n I'd o' been here last month I mighta ended up in jail this time.

Kinda reminds me of an old Waylon Jennings line "if I'd have killed her when I first met her, I'd be out of jail by now"
