BOSTON-Officers assigned to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's (ICE's) fugitive operations division arrested a member of the violent Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13) gang here yesterday.

Herberth Escobar-Leiva, a 29-year-old citizen of El Salvador who goes by the street name Perro, was ordered removed by a federal immigration judge on Sept. 19, 2002. He failed to depart the U.S. as required by law and ICE subsequently issued a warrant of removal.
Escobar-Leiva has been identified by police as a high-ranking member of the MS-13. He has an extensive criminal history of over 20 arraignments including being charged with breaking and entering daytime with intent to commit a felony with a machine gun, and has several convictions for crimes that include larceny and malicious destruction of property. He is also wanted on five outstanding state warrants.
The removal of criminal fugitive aliens is a high priority for ICE, said Bruce E. Chadbourne, field office director for detention and removal in New England. This is an especially critical mission when dealing with members of violent street gangs who have already been ordered to leave this country. ICE will continue to aggressively seek out dangerous criminals attempting to hide out in our communities.
Escobar-Leiva is currently in ICE custody awaiting his removal from the country.
The arrest of Escobar-Leiva is the latest in Massachusetts under Operation Community Shield, a nationwide ICE anti-gang initiative intended to disrupt, dismantle, and assist in the criminal prosecution of violent gangs by employing the full range of authorities available to ICE.
Recently, ICE officers and special agents in Massachusetts arrested 63 street gang members during a two-week long nationwide operation in August.
ICE uses its broad immigration authorities (both criminal and administrative) against gang members, as well as its customs authorities in targeting gang-related narcotics smuggling, money laundering, and in seeking the forfeiture of illegally derived assets.
Operation Community Shield involves strong partnerships and cooperation with existing federal, state and local anti-gang efforts. Such partnerships are essential to the success of the initiative and to ensure officer safety during operations. ICE uses intelligence on gang organizations and leadership provided by state and local authorities. This information is then used whenever possible to arrest, prosecute, and/or deport individual gang members.
The initial target of Operation Community Shield was MS-13, which is one of the largest and most violent street gangs in the country. In February, ICE kicked off the initiative with agents in six major U.S. cities conducting a coordinated enforcement operation that resulted in the arrest of 103 members of MS-13. In the months that followed, ICE agents throughout the country joined ranks and continued targeting MS-13 members in their jurisdictions.
In May 2005, ICE expanded Operation Community Shield to include all criminal street gangs and prison gangs with foreign-born members. With the launch of the second phase, ICE's Operation Community Shield aims to ensure that gang members have no safe haven in our nation's communities.

America's Most Dangerous Gang
And the Presidident expect 15M ILLEGAL aliens to voluntarily return to Mexico after a guest worker (= AMNESTY) permit expires??
Personally I think many of our terrorism laws should be used against gangs. Terrorists is really all they are.
They do CC. That is what Operation Community Shield was birthed from. Link in post 3 actually has info connecting this M13 gang to AQ.
So now they will order him to leave the country and let him go? Will he be prosecuted on all of the charges or is that type of prosecution just for us citizens?
So what's to keep him from re-entry? Oh nevermind.
All the more reason to vigorously enforce our immigration lasw and purge the nation of this illegal vermin.
Well that tatoo rather gives the game away for him, doesn't it?

Among the arrested was Hugo Morieira-Rivas, 22, of Brentwood, Urias Rodriguez-Paz, 21, of Bayshore and Juan Arevalo, 21, also of Bayshore. Morieira-Rivas and Arevalo are citizens of El Salvador, while Rodriguez-Paz is a citizen of Honduras. The initial target of Operation Community Shield was MS-13, which is one of the largest and most violent street gangs in the country.
We are committed to protecting the innocent and our Community Shield initiative and our membership in the Long Island Gang Task Force are examples of this commitment, said Ficke. We are putting gang members on notice. We will not tolerate your violence and criminal activity and we will continue to work with local law enforcement agencies to that end.

MS-13 GANG LEADER SENTENCED TO 71 MONTHS IN PRISON
ICE Operation Community Shield targets gang members
COLUMBUS, Ohio An illegal alien from El Salvadoran was sentenced here yesterday to 71 months in prison for his conviction in the Ohio Court of Common Pleas for carrying a concealed weapon, and his guilty plea for Re-entry after Deportation in the U.S. District Court, following an investigation by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
Nelson Flores, 34, aka "El Mula" or "The Mule," and aka "David Aguilar," was arrested by Columbus Police Dec. 23 after a minor traffic accident when he was identified as having been previously deported by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Columbus Police discovered his criminal background by contacting the ICE Law Enforcement Support Center (LESC).
The LESC confirmed Flores true identity through fingerprints and photographs. The LESC provides local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies with real-time immigration status and identity information on aliens suspected, arrested, or convicted of criminal activity, 24-hours-per day, 365 days a year.
ICE special agents identified Flores as a violent, previously deported felon gang leader who had been convicted of assault with a deadly weapon, and for participating in a drive-by shooting in Nevada. ICE placed a detainer placed on Flores at the time of his traffic accident, which enabled Columbus Police to lawfully detain him. At the same time, ICE Columbus special agents were instructed to respond and arrest Flores. Re-entering the U.S. after having previously been deported is a felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison.
"This is case is a textbook example of how ICE special agents, local law enforcement, and our prosecutors effectively work together to help rid our cities and communities from the scourge street gang known as MS-13," said Brian M. Moskowitz, special agent-in-charge of the ICE Office of Investigations. "The sentence imposed on Nelson Flores by the Courts sends a strong and clear message to those involved with criminal streets gangs, and particularly to its leaders, that they will pay a significant price for disregarding this country's immigration laws, and for the crimes they commit as part of their violent gang lifestyle. In addition to conducting the investigation that is sending Flores to federal prison, ICE will be waiting for him upon his release to make sure he is ultimately removed from the United States."
Flores appeared before the Honorable Judge James Graham, U.S. District Court, Southern District of Ohio. Assistant U.S. Attorney Marcia Harris, U.S. Attorneys Office, Southern District of Ohio prosecuted this case.
Investigative assistance was provided by the Columbus Police Department, Strategic Response/ Gang Bureau.
Flores apprehension occurred just before ICE began its crackdown on MS-13 gang members. Operation Community Shield, a nationwide ICE anti-gang initiative intended to disrupt, dismantle, and assist in the criminal prosecution of violent gangs by employing the full range of authorities available to ICE.
ICE kicked off Operation Community Shield in February by specifically targeting MS-13, which is one of the most violent street gangs in the country. ICE expanded the initiative in May to include all criminal street gangs and prison gangs with foreign-born members. With the launch of this second phase, ICEs Operation Community Shield aims to ensure that gang members have no safe haven in our nations communities.

To report suspicious activity, members of the public are encouraged to call the ICE hotline at: 1-866-DHS-2ICE.
And he was still walking around free!!??
What on earth does it take to get these vicious criminals locked up for good - or preferably, dead? Deporting them does no good. They just sneak back in and continue their crime wave.
Five outstanding warrants, a long history of violence and they tell him: "Please go home."
At this point we may have to import some Black Shadows(Vigliante group anti MS-13) if the govermnent doesn't get seirous.
.....Brentwood....
Any idea where Brentwood is?
Isn't this one of the illegals that crosses our border to take jobs that Americans don't want to do? </ sarcasm >
Long Island NY
I don't see too many Americans rushing to get a big MS-13 tattoed on their chests :P
