U.S. Newswire ^ | today | ???

To: Assignment Desk, Daybook Editor

Contact: Charles Martel, 617-350-7800, Marianne Duddy-Burke, 617-669-7810 (cell) or 617-361-6103 (home) Maggie Crowley, 617-878-2390 or 857-204-5816 (cell), all of the Religious Coalition for the Freedom to Marry

News Advisory:

WHO: Roman Catholics for the Freedom to Marry, a project of the Religious Coalition for the Freedom to Marry.

WHAT: Holding a press conference to release a Roman Catholic Statement Supporting Marriage Equality in Massachusetts. Any Roman Catholic in the Commonwealth may add their name to this Statement by going to http://www.rcfm.org/petition/ beginning on September 22nd.

This statement was written by Roman Catholics for Roman Catholics in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts who support marriage equality.

WHY: While the Roman Catholic hierarchy has consistently and actively opposed marriage equality in Massachusetts, hundreds of thousands of Roman Catholic parishioners support the right of gay and lesbian couples to marry.

This Statement gives Roman Catholics an opportunity to publicly express their support for marriage equality and their respectful disagreement with the Roman Catholic hierarchy on this issue.

Many faithful Roman Catholics are deeply saddened by the Churches’ decision to encourage the collection of signatures in support of a discriminatory constitutional amendment that would ban gay marriage. Members of Roman Catholics for the Freedom to Marry are upset that signature collection on this measure is taking place in houses of worship.

Charles Martel is the co-author of this statement and the organizer of this effort.

WHEN: Thursday, September 22 at 11 a.m.

WHERE: Brandeis Room, Parker House, Boston, Massachusetts

NOTE: To arrange interviews, contact Maggie Crowley at 617- 878-2390 or 857-204-5816 (cell).

Many faithful Roman Catholics are deeply saddened by the Churches’ decision to encourage the collection of signatures in support of a discriminatory constitutional amendment that would ban gay marriage.

Well, MANY, MANY, MANY more Roman Catholics are very happy by the churches' decision to encourage the collection of signatures in support of the constitutional amendment that would ban gay marriage.

After all marriage (holy matrimony) is a sacrament of the church, not a political football. (Why isn't the ACLU crying for separation of church and state ?

If the government wishes to conjure up some sort of domestic partnership, that is their side of the street.

It's not exactly a Communist trick, but it's one Martin Luther rejected ~ the deal is that the Catholic Church IS the hierarchy. If you disagree and want to start issuing your own religious dicta, then you become a Protestant and do so honestly.

Get there early, there won't be a lot of room.

Brandeis Room

Size: 480 square feet
Capacity: Banquet 30

That might fit 40 Knights of Columbus in their regalia. If they draw their swords, maybe even fewer.

Woof!

No. When you proudly trumpet the merits of heresy, you're not really a "Roman Catholic." It's not rocket science.

Right. It's like me telling the World Soccer Authority (whoever that might be) that I am a soccer player who uses my hands, doesn't think that should be a penalty, and that the WSA should change the rules.

Really, I should just go and play handball.

Hmmmm... one becomes Catholic because one believes in the infallibility of the Pope in matters of the church among other things and then incites other Catholics to revolt against the edicts of the church?

If they won't respect the writings of the Holy Father after committing allegiance to the church, why are we bemused that they show no respect for the constitution?
