How're y'all doin' hurricane-wise? I thought I saw you say last night that one was heading your way.

The hurricane watchers say two. Ms Hova was 570 miles SSE at noon, another far away. It's doubtful that a hurricane will hit the Big Island; they tend to stay South in the lee of Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa. the other islands have a problem if they spin North after passing here. Happened in '92 with Iniki.

Well, hope they don't catch up with ya! Stay safe. Everyone around here (in Texas) is freakin' out because of Big Rita heading our way. I am about 500 miles from the coast, but my brother evacuated from Galveston county this morning. Yark!

Long ago I visited Galveston for a day at the beach.....we were warned to return to Houston when clouds formed and the wind picked up. That wasn't even hurricane season.
A lot of my friends here on FR are in Texas; I'm concerned. I know about where you are, spent some time in W Texas...you should be OK if the rivers don't rise.

Where is she tonight? Even my hubby noticed that Kathy was missing! That's bad! LOL!
Guess I'd better go. My legs are burning like crazy and I need to lie flat. No, I never have found out what the deal is!
It has been so much fun on the planet tonight!

LOL! What rivers. I am in Ector County--we don't even have a creek! It does flood down one of our streets when it rains and we call it Tanglewood River, but it isn't!
Where in West Texas did you spend time?
Your FReeper FRiends in Texas are handling it. We've got it together, unlike Louisiana. Don't worry--just pray!

We chatted before. I went to a military service school at Goodfellow AFB in San Angelo (near the Concho). Was there in the winter, early spring. Learned what a Blue Norther was there.

I saw the film clip of the Air Bus making its Emergency landing at LAX. The nose landing gear threw a wide roostertail of wicked sparks.
But I've never seen a smoother, more grease landing straight down the Active''s Centerline!
Kudos to the pilot who handled a stressful situation superbly.
Excellent engineering on the nose landing gear strut. Nose tires perpendicular to the Active isn't something that happens every day. And the air business learns from its mistakes. I'm sure this incident will be reviewed and investigated for months. And improvements made.
Jack.
