A Jet Blue aircraft just did a low altitude flyby of Long Beach airport after reporting some concern with their forward gear. The television helicopter caught an image of it - the gear is turned sideways and tilted.
Aircraft is heading out towards the ocean to drop fuel, will turn around, and attempt a 'soft field' landing, keeping the nose up as long as possible.
Caller to MSNBC who was also on the plane: "It was undoubtedly the smoothest landing I've ever felt."

I saw them. There were many dozens of paramedic vans, and two mobile surgical teams (motorhome) size just off camera. Was that LAFD?
There is still rubber on the front wheel. Surprising. Looks like only the part that contacted the runway was ground away.

As an ex-pilot, I had practiced landings similar to that, many many times. Just keep the nose a little high and hold the main gear a couple inches off the runway. As the plane slows, you have to add a little power to keep the mains from touching down. You can make some smooth landings with a little practice. Of course this was done at an airfield with not much traffic.
