A Jet Blue aircraft just did a low altitude flyby of Long Beach airport after reporting some concern with their forward gear. The television helicopter caught an image of it - the gear is turned sideways and tilted.
Aircraft is heading out towards the ocean to drop fuel, will turn around, and attempt a 'soft field' landing, keeping the nose up as long as possible.
I agree, perfect landing. Also just noticed that they stopped near the end of the runway. That is close.........
Correction...one minor upset patient...
Channel 4 says they had 3 NBC personnel on the plane....tinfoil time...are they trying to oneup their competition here in the car chase capital of the WORLD???
They were getting inside info via cell phones...
MSNBC is interviewing a passenger on the phone
Didn't waste any ;~D
I wanna know when George Miller is going to demand that the Republicans rescind tax cuts for the rich so that airline safety can be improved.
My neighbor was on that flight. He agrees with you. :)
Well, I'm sure it involves Karl Rove some how. ;-)
Probably one of the NBC people on board.
It's an inside joke.
Sure it's possible to turn off graphics, but that's not the point. Large, very long loading, comic, irrelevant pictures are not needed or appropriate on a breaking news thread, and most here know that.
What got me REALLY steamed up was the shower picture that locked up my computer just as the plane landed.
Just as the landing gear is cooling down so will I as soon as I go out and walk the dog.
LOL! Just happy that everyone is safe. : )
Oh, I did...I have been...we ALL have been. Incredible, wasn't it???
Chill out, Dave. Like the other poster said, disable images in your browser if you're one of the last 7 people in America without broadband.
Go flame yourself
City of Los Angeles responded more equipment to this plane than the entire State of Louisiana did for Katrina.
Dang! I thought I knew all the inside jokes.
hmm. foot . . . mouth . . . tasty.
nice job
I am thankful that the plane landed so perfectly with such a defective nosegear. Kudos to the pilots and God bless all on the flight.
I just heard on Hannity and Colmes an America West pilot (Captain Stewart) say if the electronic system which controls the nose gear fails, the nose wheel turns 90 degrees to the nose.
What the heck? I mean, a designed failure mode which creates a problem?
If the gear locked to the line of the airplane, you could still control the steering of the aircraft with differential thrust and braking. Why on earth would it default to perpendicular to the normal direction.
Idiotic French engineers, no doubt.
Or maybe the quirky Brits. On my Landrover, you do not push in the button to enable the rear door child proof door latches, instead you push the button to enable the adult door latches. In other words, you move a switch to set the system to normal mode.
As a passenger, I love the A320's wider cabin over the cramped 737, but in an emergency, give me a Boeing any day.
