Extremely dangerous and large Category Five Hurricane Rita is churning westward across the Gulf of Mexico toward Texas. Air Force Reconnaissance indicated the central pressure has dropped to 904mb, making Rita the fifth most intense hurricane ever in the Atlantic Basin.
Hurricane and Tropical Storm Watches have been issued from Northern Mexico through the South Louisiana coastline. Galveston TX used school buses to evacuate residents. Mandatory and voluntary evacuations are in effect along the Texas coastline.

DFW area Take note of flood risk:
"EXTENDED MODELS NOW IN FRIGHTENINGLY GOOD AGREEMENT WITH CUTTING OFF LOW ALONG WEST COAST. THIS WOULD CONFINE WESTERLIES TO NORTHERN STATES...EFFECTIVELY CUTTING OFF RITA ESCAPE ROUTE TO THE NORTHEAST. IF THIS SCENARIO PLAYS OUT...REMNANTS OF RITA MAY LINGER IN NORTH TEXAS THROUGH TUESDAY. PWATS WOULD REMAIN EXTRAORDINARY...AND TREMENDOUS STORM TOTALS COULD RESULT. TPC FORECAST HOWEVER FAVORS EJECTING RITA NORTH QUICKLY. TOO MUCH UNCERTAINTY NOW...BUT WILL KEEP POPS IN THROUGH TUESDAY NIGHT.

I am in the Dallas White Rock area. My brother-in-law and sister from North Carolina just called and warned me to take this thing seriously and get prepared.
They've gone through hurricanes there and they think that if Rita gets much stronger before landfall and hits as a Cat5 it is very likely DFW sees hurricane force winds.
Good grief. Here I am in southeast Texas trying to find out if I'm gonna get blown away, and now I have to put up with this crap.
