Vidal is the kind of pseudo-intellectual who refers to the Judeo-Christian Deity as a "tribal sky-god".

Gore Vidal is a senile old queen.

Of course, he was like this before he got old and turned senile, so that's not an excuse.

An article inquiring into Gore Vidal's politics which does not mention his militant and flamboyant homosexuality misses the mark.

He did write some pretty decent history/novel; I thought Lincoln was a interesting portrait.

"Now listen, you queer, stop calling me a crypto-Nazi or I’ll sock you in you goddamn face and you’ll stay plastered."

I'll note that Gore Vidal adored Timothy McVeigh even though he disagreed with almost everything McVeigh believed (almost - since Vidal does share McVeigh's anti-Semitism).

Why?

It's pretty obvious from his constant mention of McVeigh's appearance that he had a crush on McVeigh.

How sad that he has spent his entire lifetime living in his fantasy.

It's left wing aristocrats like Gore Vidal (and Walter "The Owl of the Bohemian Grove" Cronkite), as well as the fact that the most "establishment" institutions are the most radical (ie, the Ivy League universities), that makes it seem that there might be something to the old theory that the Left is secretly a front for the American Establishment (btw, who's secretly ruling the world now that David Rockefeller is 90?).

The Left somehow sees the war against Islamo-fascism as an extension of the civil rights movement; as some type of black (e.g., Muslims) against white (e.g., the West) conflict; the usual “rich vs. poor” story.

It's not rich/poor at all. It's "us" vs. "the other" (with "us" as the eternal xenophobic bad guy and "the other" as the pure and righteous downtrodden revolutionaries). In the United States the Black/white divide is the most common one used by the Left (and the "palaeo" Right) for this purpose.

If you want to see how little poverty and wealth have to do with anything, note that wealth Blacks are not reviled but have been encouraged since the days of W.E.B. DuBois' "talented tenth" to contribute their resources for the sake of the Volk (a form of "class collaboration" all liberals decry in the historical example of Mussolini and Italy). Meanwhile, midwestern dirt poor whites who hate the rich, bankers, etc., are attacked as dangerously incipient fascist "rightwing regresso populists" who won't rest until they've hanged every Jew to a lamppost and replaced Federal Reserve notes with Monopoly money.

See? It's not class it all. It's almost an incarnation of a metaphysical concept with "the other" = "the holy" (haqadosh).

It's ironic to consider that just over one hundred years ago the ancestors of today's "dangerous rightwing extremists" were voting for William Jennings Bryan and Eugene V. Debs and the ancestors of today's coastal poofter aristocrats were pouring their considerable wealth into the coffers of William McKinley.

Hey . . . maybe William McKinley was the Secret Ruler of the World back then!

Vidal is almost a poster child for the Left: ineffective, pretentious, effete, queer, irrelevant, yet convinced of his own indispensability. He's the archetypal girly-man. I've got houseplants with more testosterone than that wrinkled old fairy.

>It has always been hard to work out how much of Vidal's aloofness is genuine. He plays up to his image as the foremost American aristocrat

I once wrote to him
to disagree with something,
and he replied [!] with

a pleasant, chatty,
thoughtful hand written reply.
He's strange, but he's nice.

Vidal: "Pinky! Are you pondering what I am pondering?"

Chomsky: "I think so Brain, but where do we get enough suspenders and bras, for *all* the Democrats?"

If you are interested in the Buckley-Vidal "debates" from 1968 you can find clips here (including the "crypto-nazi" exchange):

Like aristocratic Calvin Klein underwear I suppose?

A brilliant, but decadent and morally corrupt old queen.
Makes his cousin, AL GORE seem almost rational by comparison.
The hate-America Left will welcome back and embrace one of their own.
