DIMS talking points prediction after Rita strikes (Vanity)

When Rita strikes I expect that the local and state response will be MUCH better than Katrina. I also expect the same for the Feds.

My guess is also that if things go rather well, the attacks will be loud as ever that Bush "saved his own state" and that Texas isn't poor like Louisiana, etc.

In fact, I would wager the memos have already been typed up and they have simply left the dates off them and the actual cities that are struck until this weekend when they release them to the press.

It's sad, but why do we all know it's coming!

I'd rather be attacked for doing it right the second time then be attacked for messing up twice.

Look at it this way: it's like when the receiver in football bobbles the catch, and the teammate near him tries to grab the ball before it hits the ground. The teammate expected the receiver to catch the ball, and so was prepared to block for the receiver and not prepared to catch the receiver's bobble.

The Feds were prepared to back up Louisiana and New Orleans during Katrina. They didn't expect Blanco and Nagin to so fumble the emergency, and were not in position to step in to do the state's and city's jobs, as well as their own.

With Rita, Texas is better prepared for the emergency, freeing the Feds to focus on their own job this time. Also notice how Mississippi had things covered, and so the Feds weren't an issue there, either.

I disagree, they will go looking for people to complain about FEMA and lack of help. Trust me after this storm, people willing to complain will be easy to find. over the last couple of weeks CNN is going still trying to find people in La and Miss to complain about FEMA. They won't let up on it, because someone will expect FEMA to be at their door on Sunday morning with 10 gallons of water, food, ice and several thousand dollars and CNN will put them on camera and the NY Times will report it.

Or, it'll be "look they got everything on time but it was because they are white". Can't win. I got $5 says that after the response is above expectations someone'll say it's because the help was going to white people.

Hmmm... how do the demographics of Galveston/Houston compare to New Orleans and lower Mississippi? You don't suppose those comparisons are already teed-up for various "advocacy group" press releases right after landfall, do you?

No matter what happens, they left will use it against President Bush to try and destroy his chances for reelection in 2008.

The fact is that the Dims have been in a permanent political campaign and political destruction mode since 2000. No matter what happens, they shape their telling of current history as a loss for Bush no matter what, and the media follows their lead.

If Bush stayed out of the media focus right now, they would be saying "see, just like Katrina, Bush doesn't care". And not that Bush's personal efforts should make much difference to those on the ground in Texas, who need to do what they need to do, any Bush media notice now will be used by the Dims and the media as Bush "pandering" and not as a legitimate response to prior, media-driven, perceptions.

With the Dims and their media, it's always lose-lose for Bush, no matter what.

How can we be alarmed about what is predictable?

"Kaptain Karl's Krazy Election/Hurricane Manipulator"

LOL And the kraziest thing about it is that many Dem's actually talk almost as if something like that actually exists.

You found the crux of the problem.

I'm Republican, but disagree with a lot of President Bush's policies. (Immigration for one) I'd consider voting 'Dim', but they don't have anything at all to offer other than 'Bush is an idiot' and 'we'll do it different'.

Even assuming that I agree with #1 (I don't), what else do they have for me? I'll take a man with a plan - even a plan that I don't agree 100% with - over a bunch of clueless wanderers any day. /vent off
