Don't we monitor solar output for fluctuations?
Rush mentioned a Swedish/German study today that claims the Sun is currently hotter then it has been for the last 1000 years. Did not catch more then that. Should see a thread on it later today I bet.

I thought Katrina a cat 4 when she hit? Do they count cat 5's if they are downgraded to 4's or 3's when they hit landfall?
Thanks for educating me.

Could you explain the ratio between the barometric pressure and the strength of a hurricane? The lower the pressure, the stronger the hurricane... On the Saffir-Simpson scale that we use, hurricanes are classified by wind speed, not by pressure. Cat 1 starts when the winds hit 74 mph, 2 at 96, 3 at 111, 4 at 131, 5 at 156. Super Typhoon Tip had wind speeds of 190+ mph...

"Is there a Cat 6? OK City proved that there was a "greater than F5" tornado, and Indonesia/Alaska proved that there is a "greater than 8 Richter" earthquake, and NASA found a ninth and tenth planet in our solar system."
...and Spinal Tap proved one can crank up an amp above a "10" to an "11".

I am from that part of Texas and have vivid memories of what Celia did in 1970. My family has a cabin right in the projected path; we can probably kiss it goodbye.

he cares more about his home state than he cares about the, poor, down-trodden black population of New Orleans I question the timing of this hurricane. Obviously Haliburton sent this one as cover-up for their activities in New Orleans.

You're right, it was a Category 4 when it made landfall. I had heard that it was a Category 5, which it was when over the Gulf, but apparently it weakened before making landfall.
I'm getting an education here myself, it looks like.

Also the faster the winds spin the more vacuum that is generated causing the pressure to drop within the hurricane. Thats why the lower the pressure the higher the wind speeds thus stronger the storm.
