He wants to kill me, says defiant Sliwa
NY Daily News ^ | September 21, 2005 | CURTIS SLIWA

Guardian angels founder Curtis Sliwa couldn't believe his eyes: The Mafia boss who - according to a key witness - ordered him killed 13 years ago managed to escape conviction. Here, the outspoken radio host tells Daily News reporter Adam Nichols that he now fears John A. (Junior) Gotti wants the botched job finished:

Now he wants me dead.

I am a dead man walking. John Gotti Jr. will rejoin his family, and I know there are Gotti cohorts who have taken a solemn vow to do what they failed to do before: end my life.

They're going to celebrate [Junior Gotti's] freedom tonight and they're going to celebrate what they hope will be my eventual passing.

I can't imagine Gotti Jr. is talking like Mahatma Gandhi. This is now a vendetta, a blood feud. This is personal for him, and I can just imagine the hate he's spewing. He wants me to know he can reach out and hurt me.

They will stop at nothing to make sure that I become an example of what happens to someone who challenges their authority. I have known many people who challenged it before who are no longer here.

Whether it's a street tough or a Gambino family hanger-on, I expect somebody to have a go at killing me. [The Gambino crime family will] say if you succeed, more power to you. Make our wish come true.

There's a whole new generation of guys who want to earn the respect of John Gotti Jr., and if they can somehow report that Curtis Sliwa is 6 feet under, they know that will make their boss very happy. . . . I fear for my safety every day. . . .

I have learned from previous attacks. I do not want to be predictable; I do not want to let anything like that happen again.

But one thing I know for sure: John Gotti Jr. will still be able to see me like George Washington on the dollar bill, my red beret on my head. It will be like I'm surrounded by neon, because these colors do not run.

I'll be in his face every chance I get. I will be out walking up and down the San Gennaro festival. I will be talking about him on my radio show. I will not go away. I will take every opportunity I get to tell him he can't run and he can't hide.

He's the luckiest guy in the world to walk out of prison, and he knows it. That doesn't make me angry; it happens. But the feds have told me they have a resolve to get him; they're coming after him with a passion now.

He might think he beat the system now but, I guarantee you, soon he'll be sweating.

I have waited 13 years to see justice; I can certainly wait a little longer. He can party out at his mansion now, but there will come the day when we will lock eyes again.

The U.S. government has assured me that it is going after Round Two on the very same charges. I intend to be around for that trial.

Hopefully, they'll get Gotti Jr. next trial. Curtis Sliwa said yesterday that the prosecutors have promised him another trial. I think Gotti had some of the jurors nervous.

Actually, that would seem to be the only choice you have in cases like this.

Gotti is in trouble ~ now, does he realize that?

Curtis is a good guy with a LOT of guts. Yea, he's shouting from the rooftops so if anything happens to him they know who to go to. He's still in a bad spot though .
