I'm stunned....no hotels/motels anywhere! If anyone knows of any rooms available, please post it.
Gosh, sinkspur posted a list last night from the DFW area, are they all full already?
try 1-800-545-8226 just a 9 hour drive north west of Houston.. but we are dry!
You tried the Gaylord Texan?
Try the Como Motel in Richardson (kind of low class, but it's OK, it's where I stayed when I first came to Dallas). Also, try the long-term stay places, the ones that are for a week or longer stay - those aren't on the hotels.com list.
Try these towns on I-30 from Dallas to Texarkana: Greenville, Sulphur Springs, Mt. Vernon, and Mt. Pleasant. There are probably a dozen motels along this route. The towns near I-20 going east from Dallas to Shreveport may be still filled with Katrina evacuees, but you can try: Kaufman, Tyler, Kilgore, Longview, Marshall. Also try I-20 west from Fort Worth: Weatherford, Abilene, Sweetwater, Big Spring. Also try Sherman (north of Dallas on 75) and Denton and Gainesville (north of DFW on I-35).
I've called for my parents as far west as Ft. Stockton and Midland, as well as Abilene and San Angelo. A few rooms available Thursday night, nothing for the weekend.
You might look for a Thursday night room for a place to crash en route further out - there have been a few of those available. Otherwise, the nearest rooms I've heard of are Oklahoma, the TX panhandle and New Mexico.
Try looking for "cabins" around the big lakes of Texas. These are mom and pop operations that take a good-sized storage shed and outfit it to a cabin. There is usually a little kitchen, bed, and pull out couch. Not fancy, but a family could set up for a few days. Usually around $50/night
Lake Fork near me is hosting a major bass tournament, so do not look in this area. Try Cedar Creek Lake, Tawakoni Lake, Texoma Lake, Lake Palastine, Possum Kingdom Lake, and others. Google for Bass fishing accommodations Texas.
