I grew up in a liberal family, but things have changed. Back then (early 60's), even for most liberals, foul language, pre marital sex, homosexuality...were taboo. My ultra liberal mother actually washed my mouth out with soap when I said an especially bad word to her. She also whisked me and my brother away quickly when a couple of teenage boys she thought were queer started talking to us at the beach. I received several spankings and she used a steel pancake turner against my bare arse. She did not sing kumbaya while spanking!!!

She is still alive and has changed to conform with modern liberal thinking. I am glad I grew up when liberals were at least partially sane.

The title of this book cracks me up....I gotta get one and send it to my mother for Christmas....yeeehawwwww!

Liberals of today have no principles. While what you say of the past is certainly true, today's liberals are simply antagonists and obstructionists regardless of the issues. If Bush is for something reasonable, they have to be against it because it's Bush. It doesn't even matter if it adversely harms their own children...as long as they oppose whatever Republicans support. They have become contrarians irrespective of circumstances. This is how petty this party has become, and why they have no solutions for today's problems.

I also grew up in a liberal home which, while I wouldn't describe it as sane, was at least traditional in some respects, like yours.

My parents were the squarest of their crowd. The rest were hippy-dippy or decadent beyond belief. Most of their children ended up in "alternate" lifestyles. I sometimes think, there but for G-d's grace go I.

My mom, also an ultra liberal, did too. Now, she denies ever doing it.
