New Orleans' Nagin says Adm. Allen 'stepped outside his lane'
NEW ORLEANS - After backing off on his call for some residents to return to New Orleans, the city's mayor ripped into the top U.S. government relief official on Tuesday, underscoring the rising tension between city and federal authorities over who has the final say after the devastation of Hurricane Katrina....
The call for another evacuation ahead of a new tropical storm came after repeated warnings from top federal officials including President Bush himself that New Orleans was not safe enough to reopen. Federal officials warned that Tropical Storm Rita could breach the citys weakened levees and swamp the city all over again.

This is particularly infuriating because he so trashed the federal involvement earlier.
livelyhood = livelihood
This mayor is beyond belief. He rips into the government for not coming to his aid quickly enough and now can't stand to have them in his way. What in the world does this guy need back in NO so badly? I question what his need is--is it legal?
And criticizes a guy who is probably doing 18-hour days - while leaving town on the weekends to be with his family, who he moved to Dallas after the storm.

Let's just hope the citizens of N.O. are WISE ENOUGH to get rid of this incompetent liberal loser. If this does not wake them up, nothing will...
If the Mayor does not step aside soon, the Feds should push him aside. He is hurting efforts, not helping.
It will be interesting to see the contrast between these corrupt rats and the republicans in TX and FL this week. Galveston is already started a evacuation and many of the coastal cities are lining up buses as we speak.
What a maroon!
Voter base. The longer folks are away from N.O., the more likely they may choose to stay where they are now. It's hard to get votes from folks who are legal residents in other states.
It's all politics.
"The city requested 200 buses to assist in an evacuation. They would start running 48 hours before landfall from the downtown convention center and a stadium in Algiers."
Too bad the 1000 or so buses that had before Katrina were underwater thanks to Nagin.
This guy let all his people down and now he is feeling his Wheaties. HE IS IN AN IDIOT!
I'd like to see Rita rip thru NO and wipe the rest of the town out of existance. These people talk out of both ends. They refuse to accept repsonbility for the large loss of life then blame the feds, never enough aid or money. This babbling idiot needs to be removed from office. He's not even a legal resident of the state.
We all know the lexicon of what a Monica is.
Guess now we need something like to be "a Nagin" - someone in so over his head that even the "peter principal" was long ago.
Hey Mayor .. here is a little piece of advice
Don't tick off the military .. especially after they just bailed your rear end out of the fire

Do the words "Marion Berry" mean anything to you???

Oh yes! The doper scumbag. He was ANOTHER beauty from the left...
Nagin in his own words: http://www.atypical.net/mm/nagin.mp3
He needs money. The city is broke. It must have been broke BEFORE the levee broke because immediately after they announced they didn't have the money to pay their employees.
