I realize Pine Bluff, AR is about an 8 hour drive from Galveston, but I have room for several FReepers here if necessary. FR-mail me.
Just spoke with friends in Houston who have decided to postpone their wedding this weekend. These are not hysterical, reactionary folks- but they took a good look at the possibilities and decided to reschedule. This is a BIG wedding (300 guests)
Yall are making the news. My son just called from Japan to check on things.
Unless they call for an evacuation, I'm staying. Have the appropriate supplies, secured loose items outside. Yada, yada, yada.
I don't think work is wanting people to leave unless directed to do so. Dunno.
Don't live in the flood plain. Didn't flood during Allison. I slept through Alicia. I think the worst will be the tornados. Those can happen anytime with the weather here.
Bottom line, no matter what, it's in the Lord's hands.
Wow! Makes me glad mine was last weekend. ;0
...:-) Now... we can certainly agree on this.
What are your parents planning to do? We're headed to Austin, I think.
... that poor guy...
This is getting more threatening by the hour.
I live on the outskirts of town and can flee using back roads later than most. If it's a Cat 3, I'll stay. I've been the bullseye of one of them before, approximately as far inland as I am now.
Cutting against all that optimism is the fact that I don't know why Rita would hit at less than Cat 4. The waters south of Houston are even hotter than those in the mid-gulf.
Ours probably will too. For Alicia, the big boss showed up and didn't understand why no one else was there.
And just where in the Houston area are you? South, southwest, on the bay?
Since you are alone at home, I can't blame you. You should leave tomorrow before the roads fill up.
Stop along the way and find Internet access and check in - or call me or Dog Gone - so we don't worry about you out on the road alone.
And you're back typing already?
(One-handed, I see, noting the big "O" at her signature.... )
did you see the latest BAMM computer model? shows it landing east of Galveston Bay. Another shows it around Beaumont, while two models show Madagorda Bay area and the 5th around Brownsville.
Great advice. Thanks!
We are preparing to leave Louisiana Thursday morning perhaps.
Where are you in Louisiana??
The models are steadily moving eastward. Two of the last ones on Weather Underground now have the storm coming into the LA/TX border. An earlier, and sharper, turn to the north seems to be the trend in the models over that last day and a half.
I like your idea!
And secure (put indoors) all outside (patio) furniture, trash cans, lawn gear, and ANYTHING that can move.
