Knowing what I do about the new Medicare prescription drug benefit, I agree with McCain on this one. The plan is an unmitigated disaster.

At the very least it could be delayed ONE year which would be a good place for NOLA offset.

A decade or ten works ok for me too. :) A year, however, is a bit more politically possible.

Is this part of McCain's plan to get Hillary elected by losing?
To: ottersnot
Or, better yet, scale it way back. there is no reason to subsidize the drugs of affluent seniors. Let's keep pushing him on Pork.

If McCain wants to earn respect, start cutting the budget like the budget. That is a good start.
To: newzjunkey
Well, isn't that "special"...but it comes a couple days too late McCain for YOU to get political credit for that idea...
Mike Pence, representative from Indiana has suggested that since Thurs or Friday...so McCain is just catching ahold of his tailpipe!!!

Very, very interesting development.
Hey! Press guys! Do you still love this maverick?

Not sure I follow you. But the minute the drug benefit plan hits the stands, everyone is going to complain about it and, trust me, it will be a huge stink. Might as well avoid the mess and take it off the shelf now -- save our budget and the mess.

With or without Katrina, the drug benefit program was ill-founded....scrap it.
I would listen to proposals to provide generics to those that are truly destitute.

Agree. But I suspect Bush has too much invested in it.
Wish he could be objective about this one.

Hah, that isn't going to happen. He'll be too old, too sickly and he knows the Republican Party won't nominate him.

With or without Katrina, the drug benefit program was ill-founded....scrap it. I think the drug benefit program had to be the single largest pork project in history that gained did nothing politically for the party who passed it.
