Bush 41: I Still Like Clinton

Thirty-six hours after ex-president Bill Clinton bashed and trashed his son on everything from his handling of the Hurricane Katrina crisis to the Iraq war, former president George H.W. Bush says he still likes Clinton.

Appearing during commercial breaks on ABC's "Monday Night Football," the president's father was asked how he and Clinton managed to get along.

"I like him," Bush 41 said, despite the verbal thrashing Clinton administered to his son on ABC's "This Week" the day before.

Given two more opportunities to comment on his relationship with Clinton, Bush Sr. declined to say a single negative word about his successor.

Mr. Clinton, on the other hand, demonstrated no such graciousness when asked on Sunday about the Bush administration's response to Hurricane Katrina.

"You can't have an emergency plan that works if it only affects middle class people and up," Clinton told ABC's "This Week."

He said the allegedly slow federal response disproportionately affected African Americans and was caused by the Bush tax cuts.

"This is a matter of public policy," Clinton told his former communications director, George Stephanopoulos. "And whether it's race-based or not, if you give your tax cuts to the rich and hope everything works out all right, poverty goes up and it disproportionately affects black and brown people."

He doesn't have to say he likes him, he could just say that they "work well together" or something like that. Clinton deserves to be despised.

Bush and Billy Boy obviously know things that keep them cozy. The rest of us don't have that insipid luxury.

well said.

That tradition is now null and void. Clinton broke that tradition.

Clinton broke the tradition of not masturbating into the Oval Office sink. Are you suggesting that this means Bush should now do it as well?

All these power-mad, free-spending Big Government types love each other. No surprise. It's just a game to them.

It'll take the next American Revolution to get their minds right.

Good point. I like smoking although I know it is toxic.

Bush 41 has no choice but to remain "above the fray" until 43s term in office is done. He remembers from the '92 race how the media plastered his "he's a bozo" remark about Clinton and it was used against him (although it was a true statement!)...Just like in sports, a true athlete plays to win with his own skills-even when the other team has stolen the play book, paid off the refs and cheats whenever possible.

They are both policy junkies and have had the unique experience of being President. It would be more surprising if they didn't have a natural affinity.

Hopefully, Clinton will get his due demotion when the timing is right. If Clinton continues his noise, he will begin to appear like Howard Dean. When that happens, Billy Boy will dig his own grave and spare everyone the effort.

"This simply proves that GHWB has class and respect for the presidency, something the left will never be capable of."

Absolutely, yet another reason the liberals are such losers

"there is no gain in returning insult for insult."

I love the way President Bush is icing out the media. The lower the media or Clinton goes the higher ground Bush takes.
The media would love nothing better than a pissin' war between Clinton and the Bushes. The Bushes are never going to give them that. I do believe this is one time that turning the other cheek will pay dividends. Since the putrid media can't respond to Bush's non-responses, they can only psychoanalyze Clinton; i.e. "The Two Faces of Clinton"
Clinton is so pathologically demonic that he doesn't care what others say of him. Bad advertising is still name recognition, and Clinton's sorry soul is desperate for any headline.
It is also quite possible that the Bushes know something about the status of Clinton's health. The guy is not lookin' so good. His ticker may not have too many beats left.
The irony is, for all the bad-mouthing Clinton gives our president, Clinton could do no better than having George W. Bush give his eulogy.

By giving Judas Clinton a prominent world stage and associating him with his Dad, Bush has:

1. Confused, and thereby diluted support from, his base;
2. Tarnished and sullied the respect for his Dad by association;
3. Sent a disconnected naive old man, with Marquis of Queensbury civility, unarmed to a streetfight with a thug;
4. Emboldened his enemies, and the enemies of America, by giving them unrestricted access to a world stage, a pliant media, huge sums of money, and the reins of power;
5. Left the door wide open for a dangerous UN post for further selling out America;
6. Enabled the witch to ride the coattails to election.

Ironic, but poetically fitting, that Dubya is garnering '42' percent support - nice job!

Ditto. Yes that's right Bill, only give tax cuts to people who don't pay any taxes. That is why liberal "thought" dredges the bottom of analytical thinking. Actually Clinton knows that what he is saying is crap, but sometimes he lets his guard down and can't resist sticking a shiv in.
