I am giving up CDs. Within the next several months, I expect most of my family's CDs will be converted for playing on our iPods and personal computers. The actual CDs will either be sold or given away. As more people connect their digital music players to their home stereos and car stereos, they realize they have no use for the racks of CDs taking up space in their homes. If you no longer play CDs, why keep them? That is the conclusion my wife and I reached, and that is why I am completing the arduous process of moving the music to more compact computer storage from the CDs.

If I hear a song more than about a dozen times in a relatively brief period of time (like 2 or 3 weeks) I do have total recall, but my pitch is awful. I should probably do something with this talent and join some oral history project, but instead I just waste it on music for fun.
Two (and coincidentally, also a Dakotan). The thought of "music" following me around all day is not appealing.
I don't drive a Prius!
I hate Starbucks!
Barnes and Nobles is overpriced, so I don't buy there!
I don't wear a poncho!
I am not a flake!
I certainly am not a metrosexual!
I own an Ipod.
I love my iPod.
Anyone who thinks it is an Apple/Google 'fad', just think back when CD's came out - vinyl will become obselete? No way! Vinyl forever...yeah right.
Yes. I am of the opinion that perhaps the law should be tweaked in this respect ;)
I live in a pretty heavily populated area and haven't had trouble finding space. You can pretty much tune it to any frequency.
However, I can see where it would be a problem with FM interference. I usually listen to talk radio on my computer as I work, so I don't even mess around with a radio in the office.
Any of the iPod speakers would be just as good, the iTrip is far more portable, though!
Oh yeah? But what about the Birkenstocks you wear?!
"Me neither. I like CDs, heck I like vinyl. Those two things are just cooler in ways I can't even quantify, but can only feel..."
Besides, Bloodhound Gang's "One FIerce Digital Signature" just doesn't sound as funny as, "One Fierce Beer Coaster".
Does anyone know where I can post some of the recordings I have done?
I should clarify, I recorded myself and my singing partner playing bluegrass versions of traditional hymns...not pirated copies of others' music.
New Fox Network moniker.....I merely report.....You chide
I posted twice? Where?
Anytime you want to take my "limited mind" out into the alley, I'm ready.
"Anytime you want to take my "limited mind" out into the alley, I'm ready."
LOL. Is that the mature way to handle a discussion??? LOL
Do I have to explain metaphor to you as well?
I have 50-70 classical CDs ripped on my iPod. I don't use the shuffle feature at all. I do, however, make playlists that I use, but that's for mostly other styles of music.
If I wanted to listen to Holst's Planets, it would be no more difficult (actually easier) on my iPod than it would on my CD player -- if my CD player worked. The only CD player I own now is in my computer, so when I want room audio, I simply hook my iPod into my monitor digital speakers (powered) from my music production setup. Works great!
If you want to carry music, the iPod (other other similar player, but the iPod has by far the best sound) works while carrying CDs around, even if copied, doesn't. I can lose my iPod and be only about 5 hours and a hundred dollars (insured; deductable) out. An hour to file the claim and cash the check; an hour to go to the store and get a new one, unrap it; and another 2-3 hours to charge it and download my library into it. I have irreplacable CDs that I would be SOL on. I'm considering putting much of my CD collection in the bank safety box.
And we meet again!
I found your comment particularly insightful. Thank you.
PS. Former meeting was on a Wal-Mart/Illegal thread I believe.
No problem! I assumed your comment was directed at me and I'm glad it wasn't.
