Cleveland,Ohio (AHN) - The nominees for the Class of 2006 for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is filled with a lot of hold overs from previous years and virtually ignores a truckload of artists that many critics are shaking their heads over.

J.Geils Band, John Mellencamp, the Patti Smith Group, Chic, Joe Tex,Miles Davis, Cat Stevens, Blondie, the Paul Butterfield Band, the Dave Clark Five and the Sir Douglas Quintet will all have a chance to make it into the hall of fame located in Cleveland.

This year also marks the eighth chance for Black Sabbath, Lynyd Skynyrd gets their seventh chance, and the Sex Pistols and the Stooges all of which are on try number five.

Missing from the nomination list again this year include bands like Rush, Van Halen, Yes, Genesis, ELO, Joan Jett, Def Leppard, Alice Cooper, Heart, Deep Purple, Pat Benatar, and Duran Duran.

Nominees are picked by a 70-member committee of rock 'n' roll historians, journalists and label execs, with ballots then mailed to an international voting body of 700 music industry types for the final decision. The five to seven nominees that receive the most votes will be inducted into the Rock Hall next year.

Now that you mention Leon Russell -- wasn't he part of Rick Nelson's backup band in the early 60s? I'm pretty sure he was, back when his hair was short.

What I should have said was that the bands played at our auditorium , but the concerts were produced by our next door neighbors Eastern Ct. Teachers College ( which is now Eastern Ct. State Univ. ) . Apparently our gym was larger and more equipped to handle these concerts . One hit wonders Every Mother's Son ( Come On Down To My Boat ) played with The Alarm Clock .

I am a Woodstock 1969 alumnus BTW ! Hitched from CT to upstate NY with a buddy . Of course my parents were happily unaware of the fact ; they thought we had a ride !

Neil Sedaka comes from a Sephardic Jewish family. Same for Edie Gorme. All Brooklyn natives of course. Steve Lawrence & Edie Gorme are still wowing them in the casinos and elsewhere.

Hi All-

Classic heavy metal music is completely underrepresented in the R&RHOF. Give us leather, studs, and chains!

"A town without pity"

I get goosebumps just seeing the title ! One of the best songs ever . Proud to say Gene grew up in Rockville , CT , just down the road from where I was born .

Every Mother's Son -- excellent!! I used to run them together in my mind with Music Explosion, another one hit wonder ("A Little Bit O' Soul.") On our senior class trip to NYC, the McCoys were staying in the same hotel as us, and some of us more adventurous types talked our way in to see them and got tickets to their show. Rick Derringer (then Rick Zehringer) was lead singer. "Hang On Sloopy" and "Fever" and "Come On Let's Go" and "Up and Down."

A few more one-hit wonders before I go to bed -- Syndicate Of Sound ("Little Girl"); Crabby Appleton ("Go Back"); The Knickerbockers ("Lies"); Swinging Medallions ("Double Shot Of My Baby's Love"); Shades Of Blue ("Oh How Happy"); The Gentrys ("Keep On Dancing"); The Human Beinz ("Nobody But Me"); People ("I Love You"); Joe Jeffreys Group ("My Pledge Of Love"); and I'll close with the truly wretched Leapy Lee ("Little Arrows"). Now I know I'm getting punchy!!

I'd forgotten that, sushiman, thanks. What a voice he had!! That conclusion to "I'm Gonna Be Strong" or the notes he hits in "Mecca" or "I'm Gonna Love My Life Away" still send shivers up my spine.

I remember Eydie Gorme had a song in 1963 called "Blame It On The Bossa Nova." It was out at the same time as Jimmy Soul doing "If You Wanna Be Happy" and Lesley Gore doing "It's My Party." I feel like junior high again.

That is entirely possible. His real name is Hank Wilson.
He released an album, called "Hank Wilson's Back, Volume I", which naturally, showed a picture of his back. I think I still have that one somewhere.
Did a cover of "Goodnight, Irene".

I thought you were an atheist; how can an atheist be sanctimonious?

That is the question I would ask him (if he had known I was an atheist or bothered to observe - - imperfect senses, as you say in #4).

The “sanctimonious” accusation he used keyed me in to his inept application of the Anton Szandor LaVey philosophy. I just threw it back at him: ‘There is no such thing as an ecumenical atheist.’

You are quite an astute fellow! LOL!

2. Tendency to be illusioned - to believe that which is not.

William Shakespeare's character Macbeth in the first soliloquy: “Nothing is but what is not.”

Again, your lucid Vedic commentary is a most welcomed input and as colorful as the Lord Vishnu desktop picture on my screen... (I love the art.)

Leslie Gore was "discovered" by Quincy Jones. She's my favorite girl singer from my youth. She still tours. Mostly casinos which I'm beginning to think can be very renumerative these days. There's a casinos oldies circuit
