Cleveland,Ohio (AHN) - The nominees for the Class of 2006 for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is filled with a lot of hold overs from previous years and virtually ignores a truckload of artists that many critics are shaking their heads over.

J.Geils Band, John Mellencamp, the Patti Smith Group, Chic, Joe Tex,Miles Davis, Cat Stevens, Blondie, the Paul Butterfield Band, the Dave Clark Five and the Sir Douglas Quintet will all have a chance to make it into the hall of fame located in Cleveland.

This year also marks the eighth chance for Black Sabbath, Lynyd Skynyrd gets their seventh chance, and the Sex Pistols and the Stooges all of which are on try number five.

Missing from the nomination list again this year include bands like Rush, Van Halen, Yes, Genesis, ELO, Joan Jett, Def Leppard, Alice Cooper, Heart, Deep Purple, Pat Benatar, and Duran Duran.

Nominees are picked by a 70-member committee of rock 'n' roll historians, journalists and label execs, with ballots then mailed to an international voting body of 700 music industry types for the final decision. The five to seven nominees that receive the most votes will be inducted into the Rock Hall next year.

"Sir Douglas Quintet"

Sure, why not...and the 1910 Fruit Gum Company, the Cowsills, the Partridge Family, the Archies....

I don't think any Rock liberals should be admitted in to the Rock Hall of Fame.....so I guess this leaves Ted Nugent and Alice Cooper......:)

Nugent already holds the record for the largest bear taken with a bow, and his politics are legendary.

Seger has been snubbed for years, and is from Detroit. Many people believe the RRHOF is biased against Midwesterners, and when you see who is nominated and selected, that seems to be true.

John Mellencamp? That's a joke, right? He's so smalltown.

I hear "John Cougar" lives in a little pink house.....

"I have to question how J Geils got nominated. They may have fun songs but they aren't legends or anything like that."

J.Geils should never get nominated! Few people realize that one of the songs on the "Freeze Frame" album encourages people to piss on the Viet Nam memorial wall.

What -- The Trashmen still not nominated?

I remember a local (Minneapolis, where they were from) article that the Trashmen had "Beatlemania" status in South America. One hit wonders here, however.

They are really reaching the bottom of the barrel if they consider any of those acts as "hall of fame" material.

It may be a disgrace, but I would like Dave Clark 5 to win (even knowing that the politically correct choice will be Yussuf Islam so that he can bash the President in his speech).

Lest we forget , The Surfaris..and "Surfer Bird"
"Wella everybody's heard about the bird
a wella Bird bird bird
bird is the word"
Such depth, such meaning
How can they leave them out.
There is no justice

The RnR Hall of Fame is a joke. By failing to nominate the band that brought hard rock back from the dark days of disco in the late '70s makes it completely irrelevant. This band featured the greatest guitarist since Hendrix and the best frontman since Plant. They put out 6 albums that featured not one bad song. They sold millions of records to rabid fans while being hated by rock critics. They were, in my humble opinion, the greatest live band to ever step onstage. I am referring, of course, to Van Halen fronted by David Lee Roth. The failure of the Hall to even nominate them is a joke. My theory as to why they have not been nominated is simple. I will illustrate it by paraphrasing something Dave said on a radio interview in the early '80s. 'The critics trash VH and love Elvis Costello. Mainly because the critics all look like Elvis Costello and are pissed that they dont look like me.'

Actually...It's Rain on the Scarecrow. The lyrics of the chorus are : "Son I'm just sorry there's no legacy for ya now; rain on the scarecrow; blood on the plow; rain on the scarecrow; blood on the plow.

I still like the album Scarecrow for it's music. It has another great song called Minutes to Memories. However, in retrospect, it was just a preview to his whining leftist Bush bashing of today.

If you think about it from a conservative viewpoint, which is how I think about it, nobody has any more right to survive in the farming business than they do in any other business. If you cannot survive, then it's the free market's way of telling you that there are too many farmers, and you need to go do something else for a living. Whether or not your family has been farming for generations is irrelevant. All farm subsidies should cease in my opinion.

It does?

I just know it from back to the 80s hour on radio stations and during football games when a play is challenged.
