The mayor of New Orleans has set up an "extremely problematic" timeline for allowing residents to return to the evacuated city, which is still threatened by a weakened levee system, a lack of drinkable water and heavily polluted floodwaters, the head of the federal relief effort said Saturday.
Coast Guard Vice Adm. Thad Allen said federal officials have worked with Mayor Ray Nagin and support his vision for repopulating the city, but he called Nagin's idea to return up to 180,000 people to New Orleans in the next week both "extremely ambitious" and "extremely problematic."

Well, if that is the case, I wish the MSM and Fox would start every story with that----because when they report on bad things that could happen, when these people return....
you KNOW...that somehow FEMA and by extension, Bush will be blamed, instead of Nagin. Just like the evacuation...Nagin STILL hasn't gotten the blame for that like he should.
I hear ya. The media does an awful job of informing. I even go so far as to hold them in contempt. I think the institution of media is despicable.
If one wants to know the true lay of the land, one has to research the facts and principles behind the reports. FR is a big help for that.
Look up Nagin in Wikipedia. You will find out he was a Republican til he ran for mayor.
LOL
Who could have voted for this buffoon?
Answer: The people who waited for help to get out of a city?
OK, I know some of them were disabled, and others didn't have cars.
But my burning question is: Just how far did they need to walk in order for people to notice they needed help? Was it half a block, half a mile, a mile? If I HAVE to get out, I'm going to start walking and hope someone notices and helps me. I don't get the impression that these people did that.
Obviously these people, on a regular day-to-day basis got food from somewhere, they walked around SOME to get some of the items, right? How far were they USED to WALKING in order to live on a daily basis? Were they suddenly rendered immobile?
What about the people themselves, willing to return when all common sense screams NO!
Is it Nagin alone who has no sense?
You're saying that Bush should tell Nagin that the FEMA guys are in charge....
Could it be that Nagin still doesn't get it?
Nagin wants to be in charge as long as Nagin can blame it on someone else...
Makes you wonder what clothes were left behind?
What styles? Sizes?
Sleuth..Keep in mind..Cal Thomas....Bill Bennet...Crystal.....are all BELTWAY Republicans. Folks from the Northeast who do not have a clue what being conservative means.
Toss Laura Ingraham into that mix. They has a bit of the Oreilly factor in her. Too many times, she advocates ideas...that are not conservative.
Why not..
They had no problems getting buses out to drive people to voting boxes. Even when they were not legal voters. Just as long as they voted for Sen Mary (the b-tch) L. and her family and other dems.
But if a storm comes....oh...well....let 'em swim, I guess.
they were able to walk far enough to 'loot' the shoe stoe on canal street with plenty of cops looking on (had shotguns)--I heard that it was considered "inevitable" and they were there to keep anyone from getting hurt---does hurt some toting bags of shoes, etc. if you don't have a stolen shopping cart--the "Big Easy", easy to steal with the cops looking on or ignoring you-
Exits still open to adjacent parishes were blocked by Louisiana law enforcement. People who wanted to walk out couldn't leave.
Not true. Blanco has never signed control over to the Feds. That is why regular military are still barred from law enforcement duties.
Believe me all these people have no problem diving for beads along the many parade routes. If you've ever been to one of these you know it's a near riot.
As far as trashing to Dome and Convention Center I kind of thought that was quite normal for New Orleans. The city is usually a trash heap anyway. I lived there so I believe I can say this with authority.
Do you honestly believe that? Or was it hype?
I find it extremely hard to believe that law enforcement would block the citizens' exit.
What do you make of Miss Marpels' statement, #35, that law enforcement blocked their exits?
I find that so hard to believe.
Can't help but think these people only walked for things they wanted. No doubt they had shopping carts near their homes to use as walkers, too, if they really needed to. IF their exiting was blocked, it was probably to block them from leaving with looted items! I can understand that: You can't leave with JUNK, we're not going to allow you to enter this area with unneccessary items...
Are you unaware of this? There were at least two articles posted on FR concerning this.
Unfortunately, I haven't had the time to read every article posted on FR, nor have I heard every dialogue on every station, radio or television.
Your post indicated that people who tried to leave were blocked by law enforcement. The way I read your statement was that no one had any hope. Now you say one adjacent parish, maybe another. Do you see the difference?
And, if there was a different way out, maybe it was in the people's best interest to go out the other way. My frustration isn't as much with you as it is with the entire reporting, and our (nation-wide) gullibility. We hear one thing, and while there may be truth in it, it may be distorted, or there may be the "rest of the story" that may indicate something entirely different. Cause and effect is invalid if all the causes are not evaluated.
