The mayor of New Orleans has set up an "extremely problematic" timeline for allowing residents to return to the evacuated city, which is still threatened by a weakened levee system, a lack of drinkable water and heavily polluted floodwaters, the head of the federal relief effort said Saturday.

Coast Guard Vice Adm. Thad Allen said federal officials have worked with Mayor Ray Nagin and support his vision for repopulating the city, but he called Nagin's idea to return up to 180,000 people to New Orleans in the next week both "extremely ambitious" and "extremely problematic."

The Bush damage has been done. It can only get better from here on out.

MSM won't let facts cloud their reporting.

Nagin blew it before and he screwing the pooch after. He is the most embarrassing excuse for a Mayor I've ever seen.
Every time he opens his mouth you have to wonder who could have voted for this buffoon

This reasoning by the Mayor...should tell anyone who questions who was at fault in not reacting to Katrina well enough...their answer...

As far as I am concerned....his decision (against Adm Allen's advice, it seems) to have these people return before it is SAFE, is just as negligent as not getting them out to begin with...

This Mayor is not only incompetent, he is negligent, IMHO.

The Coast Guard is obviously racist. Not to allow people that could not get out of NO without massive help should be left to wallow for themselves again. That way the dims can blame Bush for letting them back in. The Coast Guard is thinking to small.

The Wal-Mart store in uptown New Orleans, built within the last year, survived the storm but was destroyed by looters.

"They took everything - all the electronics, the food, the bikes," said John Stonaker, a Wal-Mart security officer. "People left their old clothes on the floor when they took new ones. The only thing left are the country-and-western CDs. You can still get a Shania Twain album."

:-D )))

How about Charley Pride?

Boy --- I think this will have to be the last week I watch Newswatch on Fox...

Cal Thomas, who is supposed to be a conservative...is blasting Bush STILL---about his response...and none of them have talked at ALL about the local and state govts. not being blamed on TV..

And that commie Neal Gabler is complaining that the "poll" that supposedly showed that more Americans want an independent commission, instead of a congressional investigation...was "buried" by the right-wing press!!! LOL

Now that recovery is underway, Nagin asserts his authority and mayorship.

Yes, they annoyed me too. Last week they almost broke their arms patting themselves on the backs on what a great job the media did. I don't think the media did a great job covering Katrina at all, in fact, I could site 10 specific examples of bad types of reporting the media did.

Then this week they were all concerned about the foreign press, who cares?

What is with Cal Thomas. Pinkerton was always kinda mushy, but Cal was always a reliable conservative voice.

Fox is reporting right now, that Allen, who "in charge" is not happy at all about the Mayor telling people to return...

He said the levees aren't stable, all electricity isn't on...the water is still poisoned...

YET---the Mayor is telling them to go in..

Question: If Adm. Allen is IN CHARGE---then how can the Mayor let people back in? I thought the feds took over...and that Allen was given the job because Brown was no good...

I am seriously confused....how can Bush let this happen? He should be calling that Mayor and Governor and tell them that until further notice...Allen and Honore are in charge!

He got the people out too slowly before the storm and now wants to get them back too quickly after the storm.

The reason is the same. Tourist revenue for the city. The mayor is an idiot.

Allen and Honore are in charge of some things, and Nagin is in charge of others. The feds can't "take over" a state or town without an appropriate reason.

Locals call Nagin "The Cable Guy" from his old days at Cox Communiations.
