Bill Gertz and Rowan Scarborough in todays Washington Times provide the perspective of Army Colonel H.R. McMaster, who is leading the campaign in Iraq to retake the border town of Tal Afar, on the Islamo-fascists he is confronting:
Col. McMaster appeared in the Pentagon this week via a video hookup to describe how his 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, joined by 3rd Iraqi Army Division, routed most of the extremists.
But it was his description of how the enemy occupied their safe haven that got the most attention. Col. McMaster told of beheadings, gunshot killings, a booby-trapped dead child and kidnappings.
"This is the worst of the worst in terms of people in the world," he said. "To protect themselves here, what the enemy did is they waged the most brutal and murderous campaign against the people of Tal Afar. ... The enemy here did just the most horrible things you can imagine, in one case murdering a child, placing a booby trap within the child's body and waiting for the parent to come recover the body of their child and exploding it to kill the parents."
Col. McMaster said his men killed scores of the enemy in a series of firefights up and down the tight streets of the crossroads between Syria, where insurgents train, and the critical northern Iraqi city of Mosul.
Col. McMaster said soldiers captured some associates of lead terrorist Abu Musab Zarqawi. "They are some of the worst human beings on the face of the Earth," he said. "There is no really greater pleasure for us than to kill or capture these particular individuals."
I nominate this for statement of the day.
I served with him in the 2nd ACR when I was a young LT and he was a young CPT. Even in the beginning, we knew he was destined for greatness. At 73 Hastings he was one of our brilliant commanders.
..Now does anyone disagree that this scum "needs/demands" to be wipe from surface of this planet?
Gets my vote.
The State Department for starters.
There is NO difference between these Islamo-fascist scum and the monkeys in Gaza. NONE.
Hear! Hear! I second the nomination. Unfortunately, he will probably have violated some PC handbook rule and will be forced to apologize in our screwed up system. Warriors scare the wet-panty brigade of journalists and politicians that rule the msm.
Where's the outcray, the anger of these lunatics on the left, human rights groups like Amnesty about these brutal murdering
bunch?
Not a peep. Killing a child, ripping the guts out and sticking a bomb in the cavity so they coyld blow up the mother. How sick is that?
Micheal Moores hero's, Cindy shee-mans hero's, even though these are the same type of animals that killed her son.
That's the kind of world they would rather live in, and would rather Iraq's live in.
I've always thought that from day one. No mercy, just kill em and be done with it. There's just some things on this earth that don't deserve to exist.
Great post, Zarf...the title says it all PING!
Democrats in Congress won't be angry until they are attacked in the Capitol building in DC.
Agree. Its a real shame, I wish WE HAD a Pro-American State Department.
We're mostly members of the choir here.
Many of the others will pretend these freedom fighters do not do not commit those kinds of atrocities, or people like the Colonel exaggerate them to stir up the home folks, though they have no difficulty accusing us of doing the same or worse.
Historical case on point: the Viet Minh, Viet Cong and North Vietnamese atrocities against their own people have studiously been forgotten or overlooked while making heroes of the murderers.
Wonder what the effect would be if each time a terrorist is killed or captured and identified, the Iraqi government delivered to his or her family pictures of the horrors committed by their son or daughter. Start with pictures of what's left of that booby-trapped child.
Here's praying Colonel McMaster and his 3rd Armored Cavalry are blessed each and everyday with great and continuous pleasure!
Condi isn't pro-american?
Has CAIR started to put pressure on the US military to have him removed?
Shortly after the attacks of 9/11/01, the President made these and other remarks in a speech to the American people:
Americans are asking: How will we fight and win this war? We will direct every resource at our command -- every means of diplomacy, every tool of intelligence, every instrument of law enforcement, every financial influence, and every necessary weapon of war -- to the disruption and to the defeat of the global terror network.
This war will not be like the war against Iraq a decade ago, with a decisive liberation of territory and a swift conclusion. It will not look like the air war above Kosovo two years ago, where no ground troops were used and not a single American was lost in combat.
Our response involves far more than instant retaliation and isolated strikes. Americans should not expect one battle, but a lengthy campaign, unlike any other we have ever seen. It may include dramatic strikes, visible on TV, and covert operations, secret even in success. We will starve terrorists of funding, turn them one against another, drive them from place to place, until there is no refuge or no rest. And we will pursue nations that provide aid or safe haven to terrorism. Every nation, in every region, now has a decision to make. Either you are with us, or you are with the terrorists. (Applause.) From this day forward, any nation that continues to harbor or support terrorism will be regarded by the United States as a hostile regime.
Mr. President, it sounds to me like Syria has met your requirements for a hostile regime. It is time to do what you said you were going to do.
