A solid report from Hunt. But alas, all of this will be buried now since the administation has "taken the blame". the looting and the security situation in new orleans that prevented early responders from helping, will be sanitized from the Katrina story.

He said NO PD only had 3 boats and 2 didn't work. I got a good vid capture and will post it shortly. It is an eye opener. Gangs came all the way from Memphis and Miami and were fighting for "turf" at night. He said it was a "Free Fire Zone"!

although only 325 arrested ("mostly local kids" stealing TVS) there were up to 3,000 looters, most got away. It was " a free fire zone at night, very dangerous" and took six days to get under control, because "National Guard" should have been there from day 1. NO police officers participated in looting, or were paid off to let them go.

I have always thought we should treat these gangs as domestic terrorists.
We should treat them like the terrorist scum in Iraq

what BS. Most roads to NO were destroyed, especially those from the north and east.
The looting, IMO, was committed by those who deliberately stayed behind.

Only when the Iraqi's looted was it serious. This was just for diapers and food to feed the babies, right?

NO police are going to get pounded, so they don't want to let info out ( not sure who "they " is?). O'Reilly says this info is nowhere in the public record.

I agree with you, and they were allowing no one into the city.

I greatly admire and respect Col Hunt. His description has been more than verified by friends of my son who were in NOLA for the first two weeks. They were combat soldiers in Iraq and said exactly what Hunt reported- reminded them of Iraq- free-fire zone all over town.
Unbelievable. Where are they now? Where will they be next week, next month?

The looting, IMO, was committed by those who deliberately stayed behind. I think you mean to assert that ALL the looting was committed by those who deliberately stayed behind.
I would expect some opportunistic criminals to come in from outside, but have no idea how numerous that might be. Lots of unsecured loot in a disaster.

That's certainly the experience of the Red Cross; they still have that up on their web site.

I agree with both of you.
I always wondered if the shots fired at contractors, chemical plant explosion, fires, etc., were the work of sleepers who took advantage of the opportunity they were presented with.

Awesome! The day before the storm there were people (gangs) seen heading south, moving into NO. A person on scene had reported he had seen this. He claimed he thought gangs were moving in to loot the city. Obviously he was correct.
