WASHINGTON — The Pentagon is pressuring the Senate Judiciary Committee to close to the public next week's hearings on a former secret military intelligence unit called "Able Danger," two congressional sources have confirmed to FOX News.

Witnesses from the Pentagon are expected to testify at that hearing; that's why they want it classified. FOX News has learned that committee Chairman Arlen Specter's office is vigorously resisting the request.

Some former Able Danger analysts and Rep. Curt Weldon (search) say the formerly clandestine intelligence unit identified Mohammed Atta (search) and three other of the Sept. 11, 2001, hijackers one year before the attacks that left over 3,000 people dead. They also claim that their repeated requests to turn over the information to the FBI were ignored.

Weldon said a former Army officer will testify next week that he was also ordered to destroy data that included reference to Atta.

"In the summer of 2000, he was ordered and, or, he would go to jail if he didn't comply," the Pennsylvania Republican said. "He was ordered to destroy 2.5 terabytes of data specific to Able Danger, the Brooklyn [terror] cell and Mohammad Atta. He will name the person who ordered him to destroy that material."

I have always felt that for W to cover for the Clintons, a deal must have been struck where W insisted he'd back away from targeting Clinton in exchange for the Clintons' "hands off" of George and Barbara. W is a loyal and loving son, and I would bet a deal like this was appealing to the Clintons.

yeah, I trust Specter as much as I trust McCain. Not at all! Specter supposedly finished his chemo several months ago and he does not look good at all. Now he might still be on radiation and that is the reason he looks so ill, or.....he just might want to end up with a positive record to erase his past record.

That's aways a possibility, but I've often thought the "W" just didn't want to waste a lot of energy on Hill/Billy. Some folks just aren't worth it. Sooner or later they'll hang themselves....

I have no idea how they get people on a commission like this. But I think it would be a good start to find out who on earth would put Jamie Gorelik (sp?) on the commission. Now that is corrupt already. We were saying that for months here on FR. But we never did, to my knowledge, find out how she got there.

Those hard drives are wiped clean, broken thoroughly and acid poured on them, thats at least the procedure those guys on the EP3 used before it was forced down by a Chi-com jet at the beginning of W's admin. I doubt they are even still existence. I still think the AD guys are holding some explicit info that corroborates their story on numerous points or they would not be coming out in the first place. You don't take the Arkansas Mafia to the hoop unless you have irrefutable facts.

Foster was old news and very cold during this thing. Foster was Shillary's lover during the years in Arkansas. Dolly Kyle was Billy's (Dolly has told us Freepers that many times).

This is a tough one for speculation. Sever names come to mind for me. Ben Vinesti, Gorelik herself are my two picks.

I do know who knows for sure about Able-Danger but he ain't talking about it. Yep, the toe sucker.

Now you get it. To set up an operation (expend any money) without it being appropriated by Congress for that express purpose...IS ILLEGAL. Defense Dept. already has enough trouble on Capitol Hill. They do not want one more.

In addition, the President and the Director of CIA can classify the information under "Sources and Methods". Suppose we had a way to get the name and location of every al Quaeda member. (Currently we do NOT.) But suppose we did. Would you want that method blasted all over the world so alQuaeda could take evasive action. Think twice on that.

The third reason is political. Suppose it came out that all the Departments and Agencies DID KNOW before the attack, but nobody put it together out of laziness, stupidity or disbelief. What would the public and the Congress do?

I predict the CIA and FBI and Pentagon would be hit so hard politically, that we would be defenseless in the middle of this war...at least for a while. And, you know we cannot afford it.

Save the public crucifixions for later.
