NBC, CNN Say They're Opening Full-Time News Bureaus in New Orleans

NEW YORK (AP) - Anticipating that the Hurricane Katrina recovery will be a big story for months to come, both NBC and CNN said Thursday they are opening full-time news bureaus in New Orleans.

NBC News said its bureau will operate out of space at WDSU-TV, its local affiliate, and will help the network and MSNBC originate shows in the city. Brian Williams anchored the "NBC Nightly News" from there on Thursday in advance of President Bush's speech.

Frieda Morris, currently chief of NBC's Atlanta bureau who has been living out of a trailer in Biloxi, Miss., since the storm, will be in charge of the New Orleans bureau. NBC had no immediate details on how many people will staff the operation.

"This is not a flash in the pan," acting NBC News President Steve Capus said. "This is going to go into the next year."

CNN said it had obtained office space in downtown New Orleans and is moving equipment, journalists and a production crew there soon. It moved up its announcement by a day after NBC made its news.

"The story of the devastating wrath of Hurricane Katrina will unfold for years to come as the coast recovers and rebuilds," said CNN/US president Jonathan Klein. "CNN will be there to cover that story, and New Orleans will be a critical base of operations for us for a long time."

Rush predicted this last week.

The media is not one bit interested in the hurricane or affected citizens. Instead they think there exists a weakness to President Bush, so they are there to exploit it.

They can minimize the time it takes to get criminal film footage from camera to broadcast by being 'on the scene'.

Back to you in the studio...

Instead they think there exists a weakness to President Bush

Or else they see the potential strength of Bush in the area and figure themselves as the best tool to thwart him.

Yes, there will be interviews with those upset at not getting this, not getting that, the red tape involved.

Gee, I wonder if WE will ever get interviews by the liberals to find out how we feel about red tape, gov regulations, ect.

No, for forty years we have been ignored, while the media WAS pushing for more big gov.

Perhaps when CNN and NBC goes down there they can clarify some things for my sister who lives in Jackson, MS.....she seems to be a bit confused. She sent me an email today stating what she's learned from the TV about Katrina:

Thing I have learned from watching the news on TV during the last eight days:

The hurricane only hit black families' property

New Orleans was devastated and no other city was affected by the hurricane

Mississippi is reported to have a tree blown down

New Orleans has no white people

The hurricane blew a limb off a tree in the yard of an Alabama resident

When you are hungry after a hurricane, steal a big screen TV

The hurricane did 23 billion dollars in improvements to New Orleans: now the city is free of looters and gangs now they are in your city.

White folks don't make good news stories

Don't give thanks to the thousands that came to help rescue you, instead bitch because the government hasn't given you a debit card yet

Only black family members got separated in the hurricane rescue efforts

Ignore warnings to evacuate and the white folks will come get you and give you money for being stupid

I feel so sorry for all those black folks. The only way it could have been worse was to be white.

> The story of the devastating wrath of Hurricane
> Katrina will unfold for years to come ...

The wrath is already yesterday's news.
The rebuilding will take years to fully complete,
but I doubt these members of the Loser Liberal Legacy Media
will consider any of it "newsworthy".

In other news, Nagin, Blanco and Landrieu were devastated
to learn that 10,000 people didn't die. They were counting
on those votes for re-election.

I'm sure they are hoping New Orleans isn't rebuilt in record time, it would kind of mess up their plans for a 24/7 "Depress America" campaign.

It will be just like Iraq. They will report the 5% of the news that is negative and ignore the 95% that is positive.

Obviously they see the $$$$$ signs. Someone has to be there to make sure the crooked politicians and their friends get the money and that we don't find out about it.

May they have unsettling experiences with the criminal underbelly of NO, repeatedly, and often.

I actually think it would be GOOD if MSM reported on American big cities the way they report on Iraq - it might focus our attention on the rampant crime/gang/drug problems in some cities, and put some real heat on the local politicos (typically democratic, of course) who tend to let it fester to advance their own twisted agendas.
