Memphis -- A university student from Egypt was ordered held without bond after prosecutors said they found a pilot's uniform, chart of Memphis International Airport and a DVD titled "How an Airline Captain Should Look and Act" in his apartment.

The FBI is investigating whether Mahmoud Maawad, 29, had any connection to terrorists. He is awaiting trial on charges of wire fraud and fraudulent use of a Social Security number.

Maawad, who is in the United States illegally, told the judge during a hearing Thursday that he is studying science and economics at the University of Memphis.

"My school is everything. I stay in this country for seven years; I stay for the school," he said.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Steve Parker said Thursday that the airport-related items were found during a Sept. 9 search.

If he wants to fly I say take him up to 15,000ft and toss him out of an airplane with no 'chute.

Naw, give him a chute, just make sure we drop him in the middle of a super cell in tornado alley!

Most of the "sleepers" come over here to "go to college." Most don't seem to really get a degree however.

No, I don't fly, but I've been in the little planes, four seater, I think it was. It was quite something being right up front next to the pilot. I'll never forget that experience, flying over southwestern Colorado area. It was very different than the commercial planes I've always been in.

The four seater "puddle jumpers" : ) give a much more impression of the feeling of flight than the "airborne buses" do.

I have flown in a B-25, B-26, T-28C, DC-3, Turbo-DC-3, B-17, and the most impressive P-51.

Flying in the buses of commercial airlines does not compare to the freedom of flight experienced in smaller aircraft.

As far as feeling the exhilaration of flight, you have experienced more than most in that 4 seater.

Oh...I didn't know that. Thank you for letting me know. I still remember it very well...and that had to be about 10 years or so ago....that's how much it impressed me.

How long have you been a pilot? Have you flown a Lear? Are those over-rated? I used to watch them take off in Bermuda Dunes, CA....they're very LOUD! : )

investigating his finances -how has he been affording school for 7 freakin' years?

Is U of Memphis public? Public schools aren't so expensive.... Eight to ten thousand a year would be enough for tuition+fees+room and cheaper food, and it could be earned through a part time job (or scholarships) while still qualifying the student for low-income utility rates.

When the student doesn't save up money for retirement or future expenses, he can live on a very low income. Who knows if he worked for real, had sufficiently rich parents, or got money laundered from a terrorist financier.

Heh!, I'm not a pilot my friend, I'm an aircraft spark chaser.

However I have been very close to those who keep "warbirds" flying and have decades worth of stories of working on, flying in, and supporting warbirds and I am yet to achieve 50 years old!

I do, however work for a major business jet manufacturer for financial sustenance.

I have flown in a Lear and they are a rocket, however in the business jet arena are not the "biggest rocket". The biggest asset that "Lear" has is the most formidable "sleek" looks that they tote.

IMO, yes they are overrated.

I'm most impressed. Lears are beautiful planes, but I've not ever flown in any. That's the perfect word, rocket, as that is what they look like.

I've not heard this phrase before....what does that mean, exactly?

Do you do preventative or diagnostic or research and development with planes? And which kind do you most like to work with...or with what you do, does it not matter because the GPS stuff (or whatever you put into them, lol) is similar? (Forgive my electronics/parts ignorance.)

For your inquisitive mind, I fix and troubleshoot what the developers have missed and recommend changes to better the system from a field representatives point of view.

I like to work with the best of course....
