O'Reilly Over the Edge
Media Monitor ^ | 9/16/2005 | Cliff Kincaid

Posted on 09/16/2005 8:33:30 AM PDT by Mike Bates

Clicking through the radio dial on a drive through Virginia the other day, I had the occasion to listen to Bill O'Reilly posturing as a political independent who takes on the left and right. He said he had come under attack by a "right-wing" website because he wouldn't interview Ed Klein, the author of The Truth About Hillary. I presume he's referring to Accuracy in Media. We have done extensive reporting on the coverage of the Klein book and have found it strange that O'Reilly has joined with the liberal media in suppressing discussion of the serious charges in the book. O'Reilly claims it constitutes a "personal attack" on Senator Clinton when the book is an examination of her character. We headlined our AIM Report on the matter, "Character Counts for Hillary Clinton." It counts for O'Reilly, too. If he wants to debate it, give me a call.

Ironically, as noted by NewsMax, O'Reilly has commented on his show about how the Times "is out to destroy" author Ed Klein. At that point, O'Reilly had counted eight negative articles about the Klein book. Yet he refuses to give Klein any air time to discuss his book or the attacks on him. O'Reilly has devoted many stories to the Natalee Holloway case in Aruba, raising all kinds of questions about possible suspects in the case, but he can't bring himself to interview a respected journalist who has researched the truth about Senator Clinton. This doesn't make much sense, unless you conclude that O'Reilly doesn't want to engage in "personal attacks" because he is so vulnerable to them. The sexual harassment charges lodged by a former associate were a big embarrassment for him. He settled those charges with a big pay-out before they went to court.

At least with Colmes, you know he's a liberal. O'Reilly tries to mascarade as a conservative.

What is word wrap? should it be on or off?

Sorry, can't help. Haven't followed wrap since Biggie's untimely demise.

His show, his call. Sorry, but it's just like FreeRepublic, Jim gets to make the calls here - and OReilly gets to make the calls there. It's not "right or wrong" it's freedom.

Well said!

I don't agree with everything Bill says, but he did offer that Klein's book didn't offer anything new about Hillary, just the same old criticisms everyone's heard before. If you like Hillary you'll hate the book, if you hate Hillary you'll love the book.

Bill isn't a Bush-bot so he gets flamed by many here on FR, even though he's most often on the side of Conservatives on various issues: anti-Michael Moore/Far Left, anti Air America, anti-ACLU, anti-activist judges, pro-tougher punishment for child abusers, pro-traditional values, pro-troops, etc. But certainly his anti-SUV crusade is silly.

As the Greeks said many moons ago, "Pride cometh before the fall"

The Greeks? That's in Proverbs!

The Greeks invented the word hubris and the plays and books of ancient Greece all played up this aspect of man.

"He is a good speaker, and he is reports on news, not a lot of garbage. He's so much better than those hacks at cnn. "

Ditto! FOX is much better than CNN or MSNBC

O'Reilly has been pointing out this week how much the liberals and the MSN lie about President Bush not caring about the poor and the African Americans.

He seems pretty comfortable where he is. I think he will be on FOX for a long time.

I find it somewhat amusing that, when watching O'Reilly, people see what they want to see...

Why do you find that amusing?

This is the way the world works, perception is reality.
Do you also find it amusing that one person likes asparagus and another does not or that one person's favorite color is blue and another hates blue?

It is his show and thus his call, but that doesn't make BOR any less of a jerk. People on FR are always willing to take a shot at Bill.

I agree...and I also noticed a distinct change in Oreilly shortly after those nasty accusations came out about him. That, combined with his media brethren's constant attacks on him, seem to have made him less inclined to engage in any kind of personal smear campaigns. He takes the attacks on him very personally...and after seeing what happened to himself, I just don't think he wants to be apart of it.

This guy gets it from both sides, that is why he is so popular. And as long as he does he will continue to have the #1 news show.

I'd say that was quite a strech, as far as analogies go, to say the very least. A closer anaolgy would be how lefties see the MSM conservitive and we see it as liberal. We can't both be right. That I find amusing.

I don't think he had a poll on Klein. He did have one for Kitty Kelly. He said because he didn't have an interview with Kelly, he wouldn't have one for Klein. I believe he would have gotten a much different response to the poll about having Klein on (had he had one) than he did for Kelly.
