>>moral decadence

Oh, here we go. Somebody, somewhere might be having a fun good time. How sacrilegious!

It's called freedom.

Don't like it. Don't go. Don't do it.

Well, I really hope it gets your goat when your taxdollars flow into the GOZ.

Hey, toots, it's our tax money that will rebuild the area.

My name mentions Israel, but I live in Pennsylvania. I'm on of the "us" whose money is going to be used. And to the tune of 8% of the federal budget, that happens to be many hundreds of dollars straight from my pocket personally--even before you take into account that the actual cost will be closer to half a trillion. So I don't understand exactly how your statement is supposed to comfort me.

Don't rebuild NO? THE BEST CITY IN AMERICA.

With a murder rate ten times the national average, the food must be supernatural to add up to the "best city in America". But even if that were true, building it with tax dollars is not justified. I'd say the same thing if we were talking about Saybrook CT, if you can imagine that.

...give me access to the Fed printing presses and I'll raise you a few zeroes after that two billion.

So in addition to theft, you favor the idea of creating Jimmy-Carter style inflation. All I can say is, Wow. You must be from NO, or some other stronghold of the Democrats.

...but you're happy to make me pay for it. The answer is NO. Do what you want, but don't mail me the bill.

I've been reading your posts on this thread and I understand your position quite well. There's absolutely no reason to explain myself to you since your mind is closed. I don't make it a habit of knocking my head up against a brick wall time and time again.

When and if Pittsburgh is affected to the extent New Orleans is, then a discussion can be had about the merits of rebuilding it.

That's all I can ask; this is a free country.

There's absolutely no reason to explain myself to you since your mind is closed. I don't make it a habit of knocking my head up against a brick wall time and time again.

If you remember and think about it, I'll be much obliged. The question to ask yourself is, "Why is it that I don't believe in stealing, except when I really really want to steal?"

>>So I don't understand exactly how your statement is supposed to comfort me.

It wasn't.

>>many hundreds of dollars straight from my pocket personally

Excellent. I hope it's thousands.

>>food must be supernatural

No, Orgasmic. The religion is supernatural. The music is heavenly.

>>building it with tax dollars is not justified

Yes, it is. And plus, the argument is moot. The President has personally pledged to the rebuilding effort.

I agree that the port needs to be rebuilt , but who will control the money . The City and the state in my opinion are not able to under take the task they have proven that many times . If we let the federal government manage the money the state will complain , so who will be in charge of rebuilding one of the major ports if not the major port in America

The money is being funneled through FEMA, DOD and the Army Corp of Engineers from what I can see at Whitehouse.gov.

I don't think we will have to worry about the State and Local politicians for long. Their corrupt history is known.

"We need the port."

Rebuild it on higher ground. Raise it with shale from the shale oil deposits in the Colorado/Wyoming/Utah region.

I know, Calpernia. Hopefully there will be some who read this thread and come away with an understanding that New Orleans isn't just a place to go on vacation or a den of sin and iniquity. It's worth the effort of a thread explaining the importance of New Orleans.

It's sad that there will be so many who will still believe New Orleans is only poor blacks and the French Quarter and so isn't worth rebuilding. Something about Katrina, New Orleans and the whole tragedy has brought out some of the worst I've seen in FReepers, everything from racism to selfishness has been exhibited. Maybe if enough of us speak up we'll have a chance of educating people.

FR needs your input on some of these threads. You work at the Port of Houston, you're talking to people all along the Gulf Coast who've been affected and you can share their stories as well as what you're seeing at the Port.
