TIME TRAVEL

Hey, isn’t this new time machine just great?

ARE YOU READY? The Canteen is about to embark on another journey back in time.

Come one, climb aboard, no ticket required……free ride….we're about to take off.

Hop in, watch your step ...... Let me set my control

Buckle up. Now don't be afraid....I know how to fly this thing.......Here we goooooooooo.......

WHOOOOOOSHHHHHHHH

Landing with a thump. Sorry, folks. I’m still learning how to fly this new machine. Now, let me turn on the television and see what is on.

Do any of you remember these shows?

Car 54, Where Are You Theme Song

"Car 54, Where Are You" by John Strauss and Nat Hiken

Car 54, Where Are You Tidbits

Officers Toody (Joe E. Ross) and Muldoon (Fred Gynne) worked in New York's 53rd Precinct, which is a mixed neighborhood, both Irish and Jewish.

Aside from being cops, these two had nothing in common. One was smart, tall, thin and lived with his mother. The other was short, chubby and not too bright.

The first cop sitcom, it also featured Nipsey Russell as Officer Anderson, unusual as blacks weren't getting recurring roles in those days.

Andy Griffith Show

10/3/1960 - 9/16/1968 CBS

30 minutes

Black and White (1960-1965) and Color (1965-1968)

249 episodes

Syndication Title: Andy of Mayberry

Andy Griffith Show Cast

Andy Griffith as Sheriff Andy Taylor (1960-1968)

Don Knotts as Deputy Barney Fife (1960-1965)

Frances Bavier as Aunt Bee Taylor (1960-1970)

Ron Howard as Opie Taylor

Jack Dodson as Howard Sprague (1966-68)

Jim Nabors as Gomer Pyle (1963-64)

Andy Griffith Show Theme Song

"The Andy Griffith Show" by Earle Hagen

Andy Griffith Show Tidbits

Let's make this easy. Andy Griffith left the show in 1968 and it was renamed Mayberry R.F.D. Ken Berry as Sam Jones, another widower with a young son, carried on for Andy.

Andy Griffith Show began as an episode of the Danny Thomas' Make Room for Daddy show.

Almost everyone alive knows that Andy and Opie (Ron Howard) lived with Aunt Bee (Frances Bavier), who had raised Andy and who, when flustered flustered said "Oh, fiddle-faddle!"

Barney Fife (Don Knotts) was the inept but loveable deputy. When Knotts, who won five Emmy Awards for this role, left the show in 1965, they explained it by saying he became a detective in Raleigh. He got a brief shot at his own variety show, The Don Knotts Show, in 1971..

Green Hornet

9/9/1966 - 7/14/1967 ABC

Color - 30 minutes - 86 episodes

Based on the radio by the same name and created by George Trendle.

Produced by Richard Bluel

Green Hornet Cast

Van Williams as Britt Reid/The Green Hornet

Bruce Lee as Kato

****Also:

Wende Wagner as Lenore 'Casey' Case

Lloyd Gough as Mike Axford

Walter Brooke as District Attorney F.P. Scanlon

Green Hornet Theme Song

"Flight of the Bumble Bee" performed by Al Hirt.

Green Hornet Tidbits

Britt Reid (Van Williams) is handed management of his father Dan's newspaper, The Daily Sentinel in Washington D.C. With this comes a mandate to do good in the world, which this family comes by naturally as Dad is a grandnephew of John Reid, also know as - The Lone Ranger.

The Green Hornet is the great-grand-nephew of the Lone Ranger, you ask skeptically. Yes, because George Trendle created both and a plug is a plug is a plug.

The association inspires Britt and so he sets up shop as the Green Hornet, a crimefighting masked crusader. (Sound familiar?) His manservant, Kato (Bruce Lee) assists him in his deeds of derring-do. Only he and the District Attorney (Walter Brooke) know the Green Hornet's true identity.

Yes, THAT Bruce Lee, later to star in a gadzillion martial arts films.

The plot twist. The Green Hornet is considered a criminal by police and so has to beat a hasty retreat after nabbing the bad guys.

That's the end of the ride for today. Please watch your step on exiting the time machine. Now that I've shown you a few, how about you share something from your memory. Or, if one of these were your favorite show then, share a memory of the best episode for you.

Awww....how sweet.

I just happened to check in here just in time to see your sweet post.:)

Yes, today (actually tomorrow CDT) is his birthday and we are celebrating it in style; having a cookout for all his friends and girlfriend and Grandma and other relatives....burgers, brats, potato salad, the works......even a big cake with his picture on top.:)

We'll take lots of pictures and send them to him, and he promised to try to call around 7:00 p.m. so we can pass the phone around so everyone can wish him HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

My day will start early........his GF is picking me up at 7:00 a.m. to go.....gulp.....horseback riding! I've never done this in my life and I am a little scared. But she promised it will be fun and I shouldn't worry, and she said she will NOT laugh at me.:-)

Q. What was Thelma Lou's occupation, last name, and where did she live?

A. There are several things about Thelma Lou that are a mystery to this day. The only thing we know about what she did for a living is that she worked in an office in town. Her phone number a work was 596. We also never were told her last name. We don't know exactly what Thel's address was but we do know that her house number was 830 and that the phone number there was 247. She had one brother and two cousins that we know of. (Karen Moore & Mary Grace Gossage)

Q. Where did Barney meet Thelma Lou?

A. Well, this is a hard question because the show isn't consistent. The answer you're looking for is, they met at Wilton Blair's funeral. That was the first mention of them meeting. In a later color episode we find out that Thelma Lou was a classmate of Andy and Barney at Mayberry Union High so they must have met there but became reacquainted at Wilton Blair's funeral.
