News Advisory:
The columnist Art Buchwald is celebrating his 80th Birthday on Sept. 28. His birthday party is going to be a fitting fiesta, at the Embassy of France in Washington D.C., with lions of journalism and politics in attendance.
Outside, there will be some protesters -- clearly, people who haven't read enough Buchwald columns to learn how to lighten up.
Columnist Mark Shields will serve as Master of Ceremonies. Mike Wallace and Ben Bradlee will share reminiscences. Kathleen Kennedy Townsend will tell stories about Buchwald the babysitter. The event is being hosted by a who's who of journalism and politics spanning the better part of a century.
Since he lived in France for so many years when he worked for the New York Herald Tribune, the French Embassy offered to host a party. Buchwald said he wanted it to be a fundraiser for the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence, a favorite charity. When word leaked out about the party, a group called the Second Amendment Sisters sent a strong letter of protest to the French Ambassador, attacking the party's link to gun violence prevention efforts.
Mr. Buchwald was delighted. "I never heard of the Sisters, but a friend told me their Nunnery was in Dodge City, next to the O.K. Coral, and they kept their guns under their habits," he said. He added "their protest will make my 80th birthday more memorable."

Why did you move this to Blogger & Personal? We are protesting at the French Embassy next week! We need to get the word out
Excuse me - you must be talking to someone else if you think I'm wishy washy on this issue. You obviously can't be talking to me!!!!!

I remember Art from the 70's. Not funny then, either.
"Excuse me - you must be talking to someone else if you think I'm wishy washy on this issue. You obviously can't be talking to me"!!!!!
I guess you don't realize that we're on the same side and I'll gladly match my credentials in the gun rights movement against yours any day!
Sorry pal--you don't sound much like a "Republican". Seems to me you fall more or less in the "Idiot" category.
Art Buchwald is your typical snooty eastern liberal who has never been west of New Jersey but thinks that he is soooo much smarter than all us peasants out here in flyover country.
Buchwald is so freakin' stupid about the United States he doesn't know that the O. K. Corral is located in Tombstone, Arizona, NOT Dodge City, Kansas.
Buchwald is the perfect example of why liberals are a dying breed.
A thread about this on the activism sidebar might be a good idea.
good luck w/ the protest.
I originally posted it in Front Page in Activism last night and whoever was the mod at the time pulled it from there and put it in bloggers. I asked for it to be put back but they didn't. I asked again this morning before going out and this Mod was very nice and accommodated me.
Thanks Admin Mod.....:^)
Thanks
