What was the website President Bush gave out in his speech for people who wanted to match up with places needing help? He mentioned churches helping sister churches and so on.

This is a program, if administered as the president laid out, will be used to build infrastructure and help build businesses--the engine of our economy and culture which is the envy of the entire world.

Here's hoping so........

I think you have confused my remarks with those of Dont Tread on Me.

I was trying to help him see that he should be thankful for his ancestors, as I am for mine. It was his words above the "@@@@"

We all can tell stories of struggle and ancestry, and pride in our ancestors. I have some great stories, and I thank my ancestors for their willingness to try to make it in America.

My credentials as a conservative are quite solid thank you.

And I even support President Bush.

I actually agree with 99% of what you post. I also agree with my assessment of you. But that is OK. You walk your path and I'll walk mine. Fair enough?

Ahhh... I think you need to sharpen your detective skills a bit OK?

I think that it is possible to agree philosophically with a person and to still take issue with that person.

I find it interesting that because I take issue with a certain person that my values and philosophies are suddenly called into question.

But I will walk my path and not bother the "holy one" anymore. OK?

the applause on this good forum for this rhetoric...while well meaning no doubt....leads me to believe that in our success as Republicans, that we have become an echo of the conservative Democrats of the 70s and who supported Reagan after the Carter malaise.

Strong on defense (WOT) and supportive of entitlements ...to a degree.

History repeats itself.

I saw this coming after 9-11 when folks simply knew the obvious. That George W would fight and the Dems would not.

They shifted but they brought their social ideology with them and it shows.

We have moderated culturally markedly.

I like Bush, but....there seems to be this notion that we have to moderate or lose.

the alternative is always worse....until what point?

I really feel we need to start a MASSIVE , and I mean MASSIVE " Thank you" campaign and literally SHOWER the White House with THANK YOU NOTES.Can you imagine the encouragement of recieving literally millions of actual NOTES saying THANKS PREZ.....I am getting mine in the mail tomorrow and starting a mass emailing to try and get something going. HOW ABOUT IT FREEPERS?? I have been found guilty of criticizing this great man far too often of late, and I am tired of my own negative complaining!!!

I was thinking the same thing.... and we must Smother President Bush with prayers as well as our country. I ONLY say good about President Bush, because I know his heart and I have known his heart since he was gov of the great state of Texas. He is a man of compassion and I just don't understand why the left does not see that.

I take great offense to the use of President Bush's term, "compassionate conservatism." As if conservatives weren't compassionate until he came along

How can you be 'offended' by a term? Isn't that a bit hypersensitive?

If you know that conservatives are indeed compassionate (well, obviously not all of us, as is evidenced on this very thread), then why are you 'offended' that a political candidate uses it to dispel an image that the leftist media has perpetuated over decades? I'm sorry, Mr Adams, but that's a bit strange.

And if you've listened to almost ANY speech President Bush has given, you've heard him over and over talk about raising up the armies of compassion........that is VOLUNTEERS........who help others in need. He knows that conservatives have always been compassionate. He's just harnessing it, and using it to make America better.

I think you need to work on not being so easily offended. Unless of course, you share with some other freepers a kind of distorted satisfaction in being mad all the time.....

(btw, we don't disagree on the overspending).

I am starting to think some of our own want to eat from within. It is appauling to me that some in our own party seem to have lost their compassion and can not see the bigger picture. There is much that can be for the good of all people, after this hurricane. I see that the "displaced" were happy to get out of N.O. and maybe can even learn a new lifestyle. Out of the 400 we received here, 200 plan to stay. Churches are getting involved in their lives and lives can and will be changed.

Hate to be so pessimistic, but that's the Louisiana I know. We have long been content in our little third-world rut.

I'm sorry you don't see that human beings are the same inside, created in God's image, regardless of what state or country they live in, or what they have gone through.

I'm sorry you don't have any hope in the human spirit, or the potential for renewed energy and ambition in some who have never had a chance to exercise it before.

I am sorry you live without hope. It must be a miserable way to exist.....

Help your fellow Louisana neighbors to get out of the 'rut.' This is the chance your state needs.

Carpe diem.

You are one of life's lottery winners.

Lottery winner? Our families endured greater obstacles with NO HELP. The people of New Orleans have had far fewer obstacles than we had and took part in $30 TRILLION of help.

My grandparents walked/ran for 80 miles scavenging for food with radicals chasing them with weapons. They came to the USA and found a way to survive without government welfare. They did not know English when they got here. Are going to seriously tell me that my grandparents were "lottery winners" and the people of New Orleans have had it harder over the last 30 years?????????

My wife's hardships are the equal of my grandparents. At 13, she fled a nation at war with her brother and found a way to survive during the fleeing. She came here to the USA, got citizenship, got a job at Wal Mart, learned English, saved enough money to go to school and learn a trade and never used one penny of welfare and gvenment help, other than a student loan which she paid back in full.

Are you seriously going to tell me my wife had it easier (and was a "lottery winner") than the people of New Orleans, who have received welfare checks and other freebies for decades?????????

That does not make us lottery winners. That makes us minorities who had DESIRE and a work ethic and never wanted to hear what "discrimination" was. We "discriminated" by choosing right from wrong. We "discriminated" by wanting to go to school as opposed to hanging out at the corner.

It is wrong for taxpayers to continue to pull the cart for these people. We need to help the helpless, but nothing is being done to end the dependency cycle. Bush's proposals only cement further dependency.

It is appauling to me that some in our own party seem to have lost their compassion and can not see the bigger picture.

These folks are not in our party.

They are third party embittered complainers and leftist trolls.

If you read the posts of actual Republicans, you will see optimism and hope, not despair and anger.

Churches are getting involved in their lives and lives can and will be changed

Amen, JFC! This is a wonderful opportunity for God's people to share His love, and for some who may have never experienced real encouragement and opportunity, to have a chance at life, and more importantly hear and EXPERIENCE the Gospel of God's love for them.

I am very optimistic, and in prayer that God will be glorified, even in this disaster.
