9 P.M. EDT.
"Our third commitment is this: When communities are rebuilt, they must be even better and stronger than before the storm. Within the Gulf region are some of the most beautiful and historic places in America. As all of us saw on television, there is also some deep, persistent poverty in this region as well. And that poverty has roots in a history of racial discrimination, which cut off generations from the opportunity of America. We have a duty to confront this poverty with bold action. So let us restore all that we have cherished from yesterday, and let us rise above the legacy of inequality. "
Turned over to CNN and Aaron Brown was seething anger. Believe you are right. Bush's speech was not what they wanted to hear.
I really feel we need to start a MASSIVE , and I mean MASSIVE " Thank you" campaign and literally SHOWER the White House with THANK YOU NOTES.Can you imagine the encouragement of recieving literally millions of actual NOTES saying THANKS PREZ.....I am getting mine in the mail tomorrow and starting a mass emailing to try and get something going. HOW ABOUT IT FREEPERS?? I have been found guilty of criticizing this great man far too often of late, and I am tired of my own negative complaining!!!
I haven't had a chance to see the speech yet (tivo'd it). And I really don't want to go through this thread. Can you tell me what you thought of it?
-- Bush took away ANY racial momentum the Dems could have been building too
---- He's also going to be seen as cleaning up the mess that the Governor and Mayor allowed to happen.
------ BINGO ! And that isn't spin, it's the truth.
That's the same BS ever troll that comes to FR says.
Many links here.
Amazing how the guy flipped so quickly from his anti-Clinton days.
Really great speech.
I was impressed.
I did not get to see it live since I was at a concert, but I just read it and it was good.
Is this the part you're talking about?
Do you have a problem with minority owned businesses and home ownership?
When the streets are rebuilt, there should be many new businesses, including minority-owned businesses, along those streets. When the houses are rebuilt, more families should own, not rent, those houses. When the regional economy revives, local people should be prepared for the jobs being created. Americans want the Gulf Coast not just to survive, but to thrive, not just to cope, but to overcome. We want evacuees to come home for the best of reasons, because they have a real chance at a better life in a place they love.
If you're insinuating that I have ever sent you a Freepmail, I insist you post it right here.
There is a link to the speech on the thread
LOL (crickets chirping)
Good night. See you in the morning.
And we all know who's responsible for that... The left and Jesse, and Al, and their ilk; LA State Legislator William Jefferson, and Mayor Nagin included.
DId you happen to hear the deNOcrats replay on c-span. It had been recorded earlier in the day. Obviously they had no idea what his speech was going to say....They missunderestimated him again and really looked foolish. DId my heart good.
Nope...no FReepmail from you...it's from the OTHER folks...LOL!!!
Filled with great and creative ideas and promise, of helping people to help themselves and rebuild communities even better than they were before.
Watch it.
You know what they say: a person is known by their enemies.
I'm pretty happy with the ones I have. :-)
From your Post "Believe you are right. Bush's speech was not what they wanted to hear."
Yup, they want to keep rehashing the three days after the storm. N'Oleens will be rebuilt, along with all you other southern folks smushed up stuff.
Him standing up, taking responsibility, leading the folks forward. It has reinvigorated a foundering presidency, given it a new urgency,a new life.
Bad, say the Big D, Bad bad bad.
Heh.
I'm in. In fact, we will dedicate a little time to this in Home school tomorrow.
