"My thoughts have nothing to do with Howlin's. We agree on many things, but not even close to everything...........right, Howlin? (Let's go back to Terri Schiavo if we need proof)." I'm...flabbergasted.
I thought you two were conjoined at the hip and sharing the same cape and top with "W" emblazoned across your chests...
But hmmm...you're both still "real conservatives" and I'm an "ultracon"? (Hey, I like it afterall.)

I always enjoy your observations. They are spot on.

All of you who are tarring President Bush with the LBJ brush, tonight, either don't remember anything at all about LBJ and that era, or weren't old enough back then to know what he said and did. Where is the welfare for nothing in tonight's speech? Where is the don't bother to work, marry, and behave the way you should and we'll take care of you from cradle to grave? I sure didn't hear anything like that.
AMEN, nopardons!
There was NO LBJ in this speech. And anyone who knows ANYTHING about LBJ would never say such a thing. It is an ignorant comparison.
THANK you!

Are you going to tell all of us to move? If you can't afford insurance then yes, you should move. You indicated that you are responsible and do have insurance though.
Every place may be at slight risk for a natural disaster, but there are some that are very high risk. For example, Atlanta's only real threat is tornados. They happen but there is insurance for that.
Living with 20 miles of the gulf coast is a HUGE risk.
To: JeffAtlanta
The people of Georgia didn't tell New Orleans to build below sea level That we can blame on the French. :)
But the port is certainly in the natural interest.
Disasters of this magnitude will require some okay, lots of federal help.
Hugh Hewitt had some very good suggestions, unfortunately they seem to have fallen off his blog and not yet made it to his archives, perhaps I missed them. I believe that with some federal government aid it is possible to change some of the culture of poverty in New Orleans.
I would love to continue this discussion, but I must go to bed; If you want to respond I will respond to you tomorrow.
Good night.

The destruction went far north into the state of MS. USM had over $100,000,000 worth of damage done to the campus and that is in Hattiesburg. Jackson had damage too. So, it just was not the coast.

Nearly threw down earlier with one of my company's owners daughters over this.
We literally dropped what we were carrying and started towards each other.
I feel like there's coming a civil war mano a mano, conservative v. dem on the street and I hate this.
Imagine filing for SSI after a stroke and giving the reason: defending the admin. But it's what's about to happen to me.

"Galvenston? San Fransisco?"
The death tolls in both of these disasters exceeded Katrina (based upon current data). However, the scope of Katrina is by far larger than those two combined. Again, as others have mentioned, the area impacted is comparable to an area the size of Great Britian. In some sections, the devestation reaches 50 miles inland. New Orleans is but one small segment of this disaster.
