Pres. Bush couldn't have picked a better setting for a message of hope. Think of what the evacuees sitting on cots in a shelter must have felt when they saw one of the most beautiful symbols of their city dry and beautiful!

I don't need to be told to think about it. I already knew that.

I agree with others. This post is a direct threat to the President of the United States.

And I'm still waiting for Jeff to answer as to how President Bush has been spending money for six years when he's only been in office for four, and how he gave this speech to get votes when he's not running again.....

Still being obtuse. Five years instead of six, there you happy? "Buying votes is a metaphor" - most non-bushbots realize that.

Do you deny that Bush has spent more than any president in history? And that doesn't even count military spending.

Why do you think that most conservatives give Bush a hard time about his spending?

Again, conservatives are compassionate with their own money - liberals are compassionate with other people's money.

I think what is wrong with Scarborough and, perhaps, Matthews, is Rick Kaplan. I read a rumor that with the head of NBC news leaving Kaplan (FOB) is on his way out by the end of the year.

He just put Bill Wolfe -- the guy that was producing Tucker's show -- in charge of all of their primetime programing.

The change coincides with Joe going over to the dark side (bigtime and I used to be a fan of his show).

One story has Kaplan going so off the deep end after Keith Olberman talked (at the end of one of his shows) about having cancer in his mouth from all his years of smoking cigars. Kaplan was so angry about this that he marched onto the set and they ended up in a screaming match and Olberman on a 'leave of absence' from the show. He (Kaplan) is supposed to be such a micro-manager he has the "talent" post cards for each segment on a bulletin board so he can keep track of them staying on his approved subject matter.

Maybe if NBC really does jetison Kaplan the channel can turn around?????

FEMA had proven to be ill-prepared and almost as incompetent as much as state of Louisiana and the city of New Orleans --

How would you rate M.Brown's FEMA response to the previous dozen hurricanes to Katrina?

Great post, you pretty much sum up how I feel about the speech tonight. The libertarian in me is somewhat up in arms, but for something of this scale and magnitude, I have little problem with what he has outlined.

"You guys are defending SOCIALISM! This is the New Deal all over again."

I misspoke earlier referring to GWB as Lyndon Baines Bush and the "Great Society II".

From this day forward it should be ...George W. Bush...father of "The Raw Deal."

Why don't you go to Zimbabwe you'll feel right at home.

Speaking of Zimbabwe, aren't we showering them with billions of tax dollars too?

Yes indeed. When our waterpipes broke in 1998, and 1800 gallons of water got sucked out, the insurance company cut us a check and leveled our home. NOT. Same thing with the delivery truck that backed into our car. As opposed to replacing the bumper, headlight, and quarter panel, the heartless b*st*rds gave us $35.00 and crushed the vehicle. LOL

Well we did see how he would have handled it because Blank0 and Nagin bungled this from the get go. Add F'n to the mix and it would have been BAAAAAD. ::shudders::

I think we all tend to forget that New Orleans wasn't the only area impacted - or basically destroyed - by Hurricane Katrina. The area of devestation impacted three states with "fallout" impacting over a dozen more (i.e., TX, FL). The area is approximately the size of Great Britain.

That being said, yes MANY of those left in this area after the storm could have gotten out but choose not to for whatever reason. But, MANY also stayed behind because they simply couldn't leave - the elderly, the sick, some first-responders, and yes, dare I say it, the poor. And, in New Orleans, we all know that the mayor's ineptitude prevented the evacuation of tens of thousands who could have otherwise been transported out on those now infamous school buses.

Correct my correction if this is a form of welfare also. Is it not? I would call subsidized housing a social program that constitutes welfare...while not direct payments.
