By the President accepting responsibility for the early failures in the response, he will also be able to claim responsibility for the tremendous success that will come out of this. There have already been amazing engineering and construction accomplishments performed by private contractors hired by the railroads. The railroad bridge across the lake that carries huge quantity of goods back and forth to the port has already been rebuilt! Private enterprise in action! The crews are working around the clock. And now this vital transportation mode has been put back in service that can carry supplies and equipment and other goods into New Orleans. This is one of many success stories already happening. But you probably will not hear this on the evening network news.

where are you geting this idea that suddenly, the generational welfare state is going to embrace enterprise and self-reliance as a result of this? Just because Bush said so, its going to automatically happen?
just wait a while, wait until people start asking "where is my free new house", "I need a car", etc. you'll see how quickly this is going to unravel - and settle back into simple giveaway programs.

So your definition of a conservative is a person who spends other people's money? Why did no one have flood insurance? Your own question has exposed your deficiency, renters cannot get flood insurance. You sir, are an idiot.

" After I saw Brian Williams admitting on MSNBC that he and other reporters were chattering about the choice of location chosen by administration staff "for their president" was one of beauty and not a scene of devastation I clicked off news for the night."
The two twits ( Scarborough and Williams ) were upset that the President did not use a flooded street full of sewage as his backdrop.
You missed the bonding moment when the two twits waxed nostalgically about the " incredible journey " they had taken these past two weeks.
I was afraid they were going to start asking each other if their pants made them look fat, so I clicked off.

I saw an ABC reporting almost baiting hurricane victims from New Orleans into saying something, anything bad about the Presidents speech. All, everyone of the Katrina victims interviewed stated they firmly believed the President's speech was truthful and offered hope for the future.lol - look at post #955

The Feds aren't going to do this. PRIVATE companies are going to do this with TAX BREAKS from the FEDS. You really need to go read the President's speech to see what he said. The Feds aren't going to do this. PRIVATE companies are going to do this with TAX BREAKS from the FEDS. You really need to go read the President's speech to see what he said.I watched it. You think the $200 billion is just going to be in the form of tax breaks?

(zzzzzzzz)At last, a coherent post from you.

Since when does the governement have the obligation to pay for it? Why can't we help directly just as well? Why can't private enterprise make a determination that there's profit to be made , and act accordingly?
You guys are defending SOCIALISM! This is the New Deal all over again.

'blank' the environmentalists. A lot of our issues can be laid at their feet.
To: Da Mav
to be honest, if the choice is between paying workers prevailing wage - and paying the environmentalists and lawyers - I vote for paying the workers.

What's with you damned newbies?
Would you please tell me what's so grandly "CONSERVATIVE" to tell four states of people, who just got hit by a Cat 5 ( one state ...Florida, was only a 1, but oh well...), had everything destroyed, to go pound sand? That IS what you want, isn't it?
To: msnimje
this is what the Federal government is supposed to do. When something happens that is bigger than any single state can handle, the rest join together and help them out. The printer must have left that part out of my copy of the Constitution.

Are you suggesting that the devestation from the worst natural disaster in history is simply an everyday happening?
Guess you were one of those who felt that New York should drop dead, California should have no earthquake rebuilding funds, and the tsunami victims should have been on higher ground.

I sure hope you're in a position to say. Cause you know some democrat like Conyers or Rangel will suggest it just to appear as though they're doing something relevant.
