but helping disaster victims is certainly an American value irrespective of ones political or philosophical ideology.

By giving them more than had before and rewarding them for irresponsibly? I thought we as conservatives were supposed to be for personal responsibility. Why did these people not have flood insurance?

tucker carlson saying "this is a guilt speech, and the only way a guilty government knows how to make it right - is to throw money".

????

Show me please where this kind of spending is Constitutional. Please, I'd like to know. And don't say 'promoting the general welfare'. Promoting and providing are two different things.

If the truth were known, probably 75% of non-defense Federal spending is unconstitutional.

And make sure to pay the taxes to your state and local government. And encourage them to pay their taxes as well.

LOL!! This was strictly a cash transaction. Those boys have no bank accounts.

I'll settle up with the IRS later, Scrooge.

It's a worse night for families on cots in the Astrodome with everything they own in two Hefty Trash Bags.

That the same rhetoric that liberals use everyday to implement social programs.

My eared is cynically trained when a politiican talks about spending hundreds of billions of dollars. Boondoggles aplenty, some for you, some for me. Like the Highway Bill.

You can't solve poverty via government. It's a fool's errand.

You know what really stands out? His apology. IMO, he owed no apology. He took the blame on himself. He did it with sincerity and humility. I think that was the most effecting moment. A politician does not usually take responsibility. Certainly when not personally at fault....

Yes, he did what was best for the country, not what was best for himself or even for the party.

Somebody on FNC put him in his place last week. I remember the forefinger on his chin and alot of stumbling and stuttering to think of a response.

As long as people are living in the projects they have no sense of pride, one reason projects are usually in such terrible condition (with high crime).

Many years ago in the Nixon administration they tried taking some projects in Washington, DC and turning into ownership apartments. It was amazing how they turned around. Once people owned them the upkeep was noticeable. It's no joke. There IS pride in ownership.

Welfare breeds more welfare. 40 + years proves it doesn't work.

I didn't hear The President say he was going to rebuild NOLA with welfare, but, rather, incentive. I applaud anything to turn it around in this country and give people a reason to help themselves.

How? The democrats just got a $200 billion social program. It's a bad night for fiscal conservatives and those that believe in a small federal government.

Jeff, this is what the Federal government is supposed to do. When something happens that is bigger than any single state can handle, the rest join together and help them out.

Herein lies our strength.

How it is bad for the Democrats is these people who have been generationally kept down by the Social Welfare programs will see the light of self-relliance and feel the pride of being self-sustaining and for the first time actually believe the American Dream can belong to them if they work hard enough.

They will have to disabuse themselves of the notion that it is the REPUBLICANS who want to keep the poor and stupid and realize this has been the bread and butter of the Democrats.

Just curious -- Do you believe lemmings are "thinking" during their descent off the cliff?

I have no idea. Why don't you give us a report when you hit the bottom?

But don't let anything like an idea get in the way of expressing your feelings when you get around to writing it, OK? You might actually start sounding like a rational conservative, and not a knee jerk emoter.....
