In the meantime...don't pour money into a city below sea-level....

You are correct..... raise it up above sea level, then build upon that base.

So get a blanket. Nobody cares.

I had no idea you were a nanny-stater sink. How liberal of you.

Re: # 692: *blushes* Thanks. I love the blue shirt, too. I also thought the stopped clock in the background was interesting--6:30 or so? I wonder if it was a.m. or p.m. and when exactly it stopped.

I really think this speech was a major success, even though my electricity cut out in mid-post just as I was trying to post again about some of his comments. The electricity came back on towards the end but I couldn't get the pc back online right away. Oh well. :)

He came across strong and confident, just like his post 9/11 speech.

It is amazing that, as someone pointed out, two of the worst ... tragedies, disasters, however you want to call them ... occurred 9 months or so after his first and second inauguration.

And I believe he's stepped up to the challenge each time.

I also think this speech is perhaps even more challenging and historic than after 9/11. Four years ago, the country was united after an outside force caused destruction in a limited area.

This time, the forces within seem bent on breaking apart the national unity, and the destruction is far greater.

Losing a major American city? Just days ago, it seemed inevitable.

Not anymore. Completely amazing ... and what a gift we have in our President. (even though I don't live in the U.S. anymore, I still voted for him twice and am so grateful he is in charge "back home.")

We must help our fellow citizens. Afterall, we help people in other countries at the drop of a hat.

What I really like about what the President has done is to give the poor a REAL chance. The Democrats have failed at helping the poor. We'll see if the Republicans can do better.

I trust this President to do it right!

You got a point.

I just didn't like the reference of 'free' money, which seemed wrong considering the situation. These people didn't win a lottery. If they did, it was the worst one possible.

But I do hope people use the money properly to rebuild their lives beyond what they had before.

"Gee..........what I heard wasn't anything like Santa Claus."

Maybe you're right. The speech could have been made by the Easter Bunny hiding billion dollar bills in Eggs for the next New Orleans Easter Egg Hunt.

I can relate. The whole point is New Orleans (along with Houston - but more so) is the most important port city in the country. Barge traffic carries goods up and down the Old Man through the Crescent City. New Orleans, blemishes and all, is a city of rich culture, great food, and music. A fantastic convention town. Yes, it sits below sea level.... but I believe now that we have the opportunity and the know-how to get it right, we will do so. The money is being handled by an Inspector General, not the Louisiana Crime Family (aka New Orleans political machine).

There should be no question about rebuilding. I'd say the same thing about San Francisco or New York City (imagine a Category Five hitting there - and it IS vulnerable).

The answer is both! However, neither will take place, the mayor is playing the race card, the govenor is a woman and both are democrats and tonight our fearless leader (whom I and my entire family voted for twice) has just said he is putting them in charge of reconstruction

OK, I thought that's what was said.

If Louisiana falls into the GOP column and
nobody reports it, will it have happened?

He is setting the precedent that when a natural event takes place and unfortunate events take place....we are all suppose to cry to daddy (federal gov't) and all will and should be taken care of by daddy - That is pathetic -

Only if YOU allow YOURSELF to cry to "daddy" first when disaster hits home, then it's a problem.
