Bush to Say New Orleans Will Rise Again

(09-15) 15:13 PDT NEW ORLEANS, (AP) --
Faced with the nation's costliest natural disaster, President Bush planned to say Thursday the rebuilding of the Gulf Coast will be one of the largest reconstruction projects the world has ever seen and the federal government will cover most of the costs estimated at $200 billion or beyond.
"There is no way to imagine America without New Orleans, and this great city will rise again," the president said in remarks prepared for an address to the nation.
Bush committed the federal government to covering "the great majority of the costs" of rebuilding critical infrastructure such as roads, bridges, schools and water systems.
"Our goal is to get the work done quickly," Bush was to say.
Trying to make up for a flawed disaster response that embarrassed his administration, Bush was to say he considers detailed emergency planning a "national security" priority.

No bias here.
Bias? From The AP?
Do bears crap in the woods?
did they get a copy of the speech before hand ? how could they already write the story in past tense ?
If he says, "rise again" the dims will be all over him for using a segregationist slogan.
Bush better make it clear that the Feds are in charge. I don't want Nagin or Blanco's hands on any Fed money. All I ask the people of the fine state of Louisiana and city of N.O. to do in return for the $200B is to boot Nagin and Blanco from office! Seems like a good deal.
It doesn't matter what Bush says or how good he says it. The democrats will say it's to little late, he did horrible, it's all his fault... etc.
Sometimes Paducah, KY is at the head of the Gulf, and sometimes it's New Orleans, LA, but it's not likely anything short of the next glaciation will bring NO above sealevel.
Absent such action, it should be abandoned for a later age. Let it subside. Bring on the gators. Introduce some Australian crocidiles too! Diversity is golden.
With that amount of money being thrown about and around, I have the uneasy feeling that the percentage of corruption will be on a par with the Iraq Oil for Food program.
"Bush better make it clear that the Feds are in charge."
Hoping better oversight than over the 9/11 "reconstruction" funds and the Iraq "reconstruction" funds!
The "reconstruction" industry is emerging a strong force among the Beltway bandits.
Yes...the White House releases copies of the speeches to the media before the speech....
Unfortunately, Fox is reporting that in the speech, Bush not only will commit Billions of dollars, he will also acknowledge that racism had a part to play in the poorer areas of town in NO...and was reponsible for them not getting out...I don't know who told him to do that...
But, if he does say that....it will just keep Jesse and Sharpton on his case more often....blech!
True. But still lesser of two evils...Feds vs. Blanco/Nagin.
Especially since the Governor and Sen. Landrieu have both said that contracts HAVE to go to Louisiana businesses, EVEN if they bid higher, aren't as good, or as prepared...
IOW...we are already being set up to be shafted!!!
Exactly. The current location of NO will never again be privately insurable. Let's rebuild the city, let's just do it somewhere else. The flooded areas should be cleaned out and reestablished as the wet lands they naturally are.
Do bears crap in the woods?
Yes! And it leaves a nice trail so you can hunt them down and ....
say that isn't true....
And I know damn well my taxes are going to do the same thing.
Fiscal responsibility my azz!
'Cotton oughta go sky high next ye-ah'
Heard anything about coffee and rice futures lately?
What time is the speech?
Speaking of insurance...that James L. Witt that Blanco hired to handle the States part of clean-up/reconstruction--
is a lobbyist for Allstate Insurance Company!!!
