Bush asks Annan 'has place blown up?' since Bolton

John Bolton's reputation as a difficult diplomat gave his boss, US President George W Bush, an opportunity to tease the new American ambassador to the United Nations.

''How's he doing? Has the place blown up?'' Bush asked UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan as the president and Bolton arrived at UN headquarters on Tuesday for a world summit.

The president's jest was captured on videotape by a UN television crew.

Bolton, Bush's choice for UN ambassador, failed to win US Senate approval for the senior post and this forced the president to use a rarely used bureaucratic manoeuver to send him to New York.

Bolton, who had a reputation as an aggressive and sometimes abrasive official, is a longtime UN critic and a skeptic of multilateral action. He was accused by Senate Democrats of seeking to twist intelligence findings to advance Bush foreign policy goals.

But since his arrival at the United Nations, his public persona has been witty and engaged. Annan, at a news conference on Tuesday, called him ''very constructive.''

Why talk to Kofi anyway? He'll be in jail before long.

And Bush went on to ask Annan, 'Have you talked to Martha Stewart lately?'

Oh yeah Recess Appointments---rarely employed--as in-- not since the immediately pior president, Bill Clinton, was in the White House.

The MSM must think that people are increadibly dumb or have no memory at all.

Bubba lived by recees appointment after the REPUBS got Congress. What a joke.

Right on! To hear those Senate 'Drama Queens' the World would blow up if Bolton were confirmed. As usual, they are wrong but that won't stop them from continuing on what is, quite frankly, a boring and predictable behavior.
