Now Right Demanding Dem Memos

Conservative strategists are drafting a letter to Democratic members of the Senate Judiciary Committee demanding the release of hundreds of internal memos detailing contacts between the lawmakers and liberal interest groups opposing John Roberts’s nomination to the Supreme Court.

By planning to press Democrats on the sensitive subject, conservatives seem to be pulling a page from the Democrats’ own political playbook. In the weeks leading up to the confirmation hearings, Senate Democrats have repeatedly called on the White House to give them memos Roberts penned while he was deputy solicitor general in President George H.W. Bush’s administration.

Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.), the ranking member on the Judiciary Committee, raised the issue again yesterday by releasing a letter dated Sept. 9 from William Moschella, the assistant attorney general. In the letter, Moschella declined to disclose legal memos from Roberts’s tenure in the Office of the Solicitor General.

“It is regrettable that the Bush administration persists in keeping this information from the Senate,” Leahy said. “These documents, from the period of Judge Roberts’s most substantive work experience in the executive branch, would help illuminate his views and earlier decisions on a wide range of key issues that are of vital importance to the American people and to the Senate.”

In their letter, conservatives quote Leahy’s argument that the Senate should have access to the withheld documents.

It's about time somebody has the b@lls to fight fire with fire.

You never win a battle by refusing to fight.

Now that's what I'm talkin' about. Too often, conservatives think they've won the battle simply by pointing out the flaw in the opponents' position. You gotta be willing to get down and get your hands dirty.

But you can win battles by allowing your enemy to destroy himself.

It's worked for the past six years.

Let's see them do more than draft the letter. Let's see them release it, and the media follow up on it. Then I'll think they've finally starting standing up to the bullies. Until then it's just murmuring!

True enough, but I personally favor a more.... active destruction of our opponents. More fun that way.

These documents, from the period of Judge Roberts’s most substantive work experience in the executive branch...

John Roberts has proved to the Senators that his whole life has been about consistency, in fact, some have said that makes him not well suited to sit on the court.
Do they think he suddenly and sharply reverted from type during his short stint at the Solicitor General's office and then made an equally abrupt shift BACK again after that tenure??
These requests are incredible.

If you're waiting for the MSM to give the memos their attention, don't hold your breath. It would, however, be wonderful if Hannity, Limbaugh, etc., had access to the "Memogate Memos".

You don't REALLY expect the media to cover this do you? The Dems are always covered by their buddies in the MSM. I talk to people all the time about things like the Sandy Burgler thing and they are clueless. When the Dems get caught in things the sheeple never hear about it. I'm tired of it all and feel I'm losing the battle. I will fight on though and continue to get the real truth out there when I can.

Can you add "subpoena the documents" and some hearings on the hill on this 5th column.
