Conservative strategists are drafting a letter to Democratic members of the Senate Judiciary Committee demanding the release of hundreds of internal memos detailing contacts between the lawmakers and liberal interest groups opposing John Robertss nomination to the Supreme Court.
By planning to press Democrats on the sensitive subject, conservatives seem to be pulling a page from the Democrats own political playbook. In the weeks leading up to the confirmation hearings, Senate Democrats have repeatedly called on the White House to give them memos Roberts penned while he was deputy solicitor general in President George H.W. Bushs administration.
Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.), the ranking member on the Judiciary Committee, raised the issue again yesterday by releasing a letter dated Sept. 9 from William Moschella, the assistant attorney general. In the letter, Moschella declined to disclose legal memos from Robertss tenure in the Office of the Solicitor General.
It is regrettable that the Bush administration persists in keeping this information from the Senate, Leahy said. These documents, from the period of Judge Robertss most substantive work experience in the executive branch, would help illuminate his views and earlier decisions on a wide range of key issues that are of vital importance to the American people and to the Senate.
In their letter, conservatives quote Leahys argument that the Senate should have access to the withheld documents.

Amen to that.
It gets old supporting a bunch of habitual wusses.
BRING ON THE MEMOS
THE PUBLIC WANTS TO KNOW!!
Three basic rules for fighting liberals:
Rule #1: Always take the game to them.
Rule #2: Use their own tactics against them while always being two steps ahead of them.
Rule #3: Never back down, and at any sign of weakness be absolutely merciless and unrelenting as you go for the kill.
I think Lord of the Rings illustrates how to fight liberals. A line in the Two Towers sums it up: 'Show them no mercy, for you shall receive none.'
Yes!!!! Mark Levin's involved. I feel better already.
About Damn time! I love this. I just hope they keep pressing it into a real issue. Do NOT back down Reps.
somebody wake me up if they have actually follow through AND declare the senate country club to be DEAD.
(btw I thought Spectre was the ranking member since he is of the majority party)
btw, I see no specific names in the article of who's doing this. I see that Mark Levin agrees though, and if I'm not mistaken, he's a conservative Republican.
And I think that if you took a poll, you'd see that most of the people saying "Yesss!!" here are also conservative Republicans........like me.
YESSSSSS!!!!! Go for it!
Thanks for the up-lift. I'm with you.
bttt
I'm not happy with our Republican leadership either, but to say that conservatives and Republicans are two different entities is not accurate, no matter what examples you may cite to prove your point.
Whatever
All you had to say was, "I was wrong." Too hard?
Whatever
