BATON ROUGE, United States (AFP) - Louisiana Governor Kathleen Blanco has accused the federal government of moving too slowly to recover the bodies of hurricane victims, saying her state would hire a private company to do the work.

"No one, it seems, even those at the highest level, seems to be able to break through the bureaucracy to get this important mission done," Blanco said as she met with state officials.

NOW she actually does something? It's a little late, isn't it?

This woman will not see reelection. She ran for her own life and left everyone else to swim. People won't forget that.

I know people who are paid a good living by our government to play computer solitaire all day.

The real reform in government is decentralization - a bureaucracy large enough can become like a force of nature, preventing action - or change - through sheer inertia.

I would expand that to say complainers, those with whiney attitudes, and the hypersensitive all rise to the top of any organization, but government especially.

Specifically due to the fact that promoting them is the only way to shut them the hell up for 1/10th of a second, before they find something else to harp about and annoy people.

Seems to me that I remember reading an article in the past few days where a private mortuary company was complaining that the Feds were going to recover the bodies, and that the private company had a contract to do so.

Funny thing though about Blanco saying they're hiring a contractor. I found this:

http://www.kvue.com/news/state/stories/090905kvuebodies-cb.3f51874c.html

from September 9, 2005, that says that the Feds have already hired a contractor to do or coordinate the recovery.

She is hiring Kenyon, some contractor which apparently offers bloated-body-removal services. Maybe this is not too unusual in New Orleans.

It reminds me of a trip to Boston Mass when I was searching through the local yellow pages and came upon a company which specializes in removing blood stains and unpleasant smells from carpeting, 'available 24/7'.

I guess you just have to cater to the local market and provide what society needs.

This may not have anything at all to do with the speed of body removal. Fema is precise and catalogues each death.

Could the be real reason for this hurry up and remove the bodies rant is that blanco and the trailer trash democrat cabal that is advising her right now, are far more concerned with COVERING UP how the victems died....ie....BULLET HOLES, if that is the case.

Will be PRETTY HARD TO CONTINUE TO BLAME THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT if the msjority of the DEAD WERE KILLED BY THUGS AND NOT KATRINA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bet anything the private mortuary's she contracts with will REMAIN SILENT regarding cause of death. Money talks real loud, especially down there.

Yes. President Bush has a great heart, but he slipped up there, IMO. Never give the enemy an avenue of attack, especially when the enemy are amoral, ruthless, rabid-at-being-out-of-power Democrats.

He's got good character. He's talking the sins of the democrats onto himself.
A man who does not shrink from self crucifixion can never fail to accomplish the object upon which his heart is set.
People will be a witness to this, and who could hate such a man?
