ROCHESTER, NY Congresswoman Louise Slaughter (D-Rochester) today unveiled a plan that she says will help stabalize gas prices in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.
In the last couple of weeks gas prices have increased dramatically, but Slaughter says that doesn't necessarily have to happen.
Slaughter has introduced the "Emergency Petroleum Allocation Act." It would temporarily cap the price of gas at 2-dollars 50-cents a gallon. It would also direct the Secretary of Energy to develop criteria for declaring the sort of national fuel emergency that would trigger future price controls.
Slaughter says if her plan garners enough support there could be a cap on the price of gas by the end of the year.
It has been down below $2.70 in the Atlanta area.
Supply and Demand curve. Easy to understand. All politicians should be required to take Economics 101.
I don't think we'll be back down to the 1.50 level but below 3.00 is GREAT.
Ponce De Leon would come to America today in search of the Fountain of Dumb. It is obviously located here.
A better title would be the "Gasoline Black Market Act."
"Lemme see, I can send my tanker trucks to Rochester, where prices are fixed and I lose money on every sale, or I can send them ANYWHERE ELSE IN THE COUNTRY where markets are free and I can make a profit."
"This is too hard a choice for me, I'm going back to apply for that rocket scientist job..."
Why doesn't she push our lawmakers to reduce or cut all the TAXAS on gasoline. NY is one of the most heavily taxed states and they wonder why people and businesses are leaving it. Well, DUH not everybody has a cush gov't job and sucks off the rest of the populace. People who like telling otheres what to do don't realize that everyone else doesn't like to be told what to do.
Doesn't Rochester have enough problems these days without this foolishness from Slaughter?
Isn't it time that lawmakers were expected to have some grounding in basic economics?
Why are we all decrying this. I say price caps YES!!!! (in blue states that is). Seriously, if your enemies are making a mistake, lets all rejoice. When New Yorkers are waiting in gas lines, let them rejoice in their votes for a liberal legislature. Let them swim in the swamp they create.
It's the "magic white hole" theory of economics, where all goods and services come from a magical, never-ending well where evil corporations take them all and make us buy them for completely arbitrary prices.
Hey, there are a lot of red areas in NY:) If you look at the maps, it's the cities, particularly NYC, that carry the state. I think the best thing that could happen is if NYC were made it's own state or be pushed out to sea and have the plug pulled.
No, with Jimmuh, its an 80% chance you'll be able to keep 20% of what you earn..
There are enough red areas in NY whereby if a stupid thing like this were to come to fruition and it backfired, the blue areas just might revolt long enough to put Hillary on her arse.
If her plan gathers enough support we'll be trying to shovel charcoal into our tanks.
Doooh !
