We think that truth is one thing and falsity quite another, and they think us unsophisticated. We think that truth is discovered; they think it is invented. They cite Machiavelli and marvel that we do not trust them, cite Nietsche and say that our God is dead, cite Heidigger and accuse us of fascist sympathies, cite Foucault and say that we are hung up on sex. They call us uncultured and call Dante, Shakespeare, and Goethe Dead White European Men. They say that we have no appreciation of the arts, and they watch pornography and call it art

This is an exact description of what the leftists and Democrats seem to believe and shows why we don't understand how far they will go.

Great post, thanks. I think of liberalism as a faux religion. There are tenets of belief, high priests who make pronouncements, commandments to not break, a core of beliefs to which you must adhere. No God in charge, however; they don't think they need that.

" we can escape their giant Index of Political Correction and its enforcer, the Great American Character-Assassination Machine. "

Yet they feel free to character-assasinate our President during wartime on ever pretext from a hangnail to a horsefly!

"The politically correct instill in us guilt and shame and then offer to cure us of them in exchange for our becoming politically correct ourselves."

They only instill guilt in those that will be led by the nose.

Hello world! I am an American without guilt, and will take any and all action at my disposal to remain that way.

Good post. Thanks.

I just re-read that book again last week.

All animals are equal, but some are more equal than others.

I almost wonder if liberals are using 1984 as an operating manual sometimes.

It's amazing how much power over us we have given to 'they.'

'They' have robbed us of our ability to think about something else other than what 'they' think.

'They' have destroyed our ability to do and think what comes naturally and logically, fearful of the consequences we must pay for acting responsibly and correctly.

We are all going to die young for second-guessing ourselves and catering to 'they.'

The conclusion of this peice couldn't be more off the mark. Carson is trying to make the connection between the loss of religion and the rise of PC, as if both were somehow related. It is a lot like blaming obesity rates on the existence of hamburgers or blaming murders in the existence of guns. People make a conscious decision to exercise militant groupthink ( which is what PC essentially is ). And some of those people can be quite religious, having religious values doesn't stop a person from exercising other values.

On the right side of the political spectrum , we have people who are nihilists, objectivists, atheists and freethinkers who loathe militant groupthink. I would argue that it is not the decay of religion causing this, rather it is an age old problem of people who think it best to change the minds of men through social conditioning and/or brute force.

"I think of liberalism as a faux religion. There are tenets of belief, high priests who make pronouncements, commandments to not break, a core of beliefs to which you must adhere. No God in charge, however; they don't think they need that."

But that's the point---to a liberal, it ISN'T "faux" (no matter how many times reality "rubs their noses" in the facts).

I agree. This paragraph is right on target...

In short, they run a sort of moral protection racket. They make people feel guilty, and then they offer them absolution. They are our only protection against hellish shame and humiliation. Join them, and your sins are washed away. Refuse, and bear on top of your own sins, which were already too heavy to carry, the burden of the sins of the whole world.

...and applies equally well to all advocates of a doctrine of Original Sin, be they Greens or Communists or Calvinists.

But then his final paragraph completely and inexplicably contradicts the conclusion he is leading up to in the rest of the essay.

" In short, they run a sort of moral protection racket. "

Liberals exist on "White-Liberal-Guilt" and without "White-Liberal-Guilt" there could be no left -- they'd be powerless.

It appears to me that the whole Katrina MSM reporting is the best example of playing off "White-Liberal-Guilt" in making us all feel bad/guilty/evil Republicans.

American Orginal Sin, yes it is a good name for "White-Liberal-Guilt".

I agree with the essayist: man longs for faith. PC is a system of belief, a form of faith, an ideology with doctrine and mantra. The irony is PC indoctrinees are more zealous than the believers they decry. V's wife.
