The Dem playbook

The Hill newspaper gives us a peek at the Democratic playbook for the Roberts hearings. Below are the attack assignments for the Democratic members of the Committee:

Kennedy -- civil rights

Leahy -- Bybee torture memo

Biden -- privacy, personal autonomyand the 9th Amendment

Kohl -- Property rights and civil liberties

Feinstein -- "judicial activism" and Roe vs. Wade

Feingold -- limits of executive powers

Schumer and Durbin have wisely refused to show their hand.

I'd disagree with Roberts re the court's authority to decide what the Costitution means. It does have that authority, but not exclusively. That is also an authority held by the Executive and Legislative Branches

There are a few here who say that Specter purposely led off with questions on Roe to "muddy the waters" for when the Dems get out the long knives..

There is nothing finer than watching a skilled advocate at work -- particularly on moot court type questions. Roberts really took Leahy to school for what I saw.

I didn't get my first pair of jeans till 12th grade. I had to wear dresses and Mary Janes, not even penny loafers...too casual. Sneakers were only (I repeat only), for Phys Ed.

Sounds like a blatant case of legislating from the bench.

"The next appointee will be a woman. Among other considerations, Laura Bush wants the President to nominate a woman."

Disgusting.

The next nominee should be the person most qualified. If there are a bunch of people most qualified, flip a frigging coin or something - but picking someone on the basis of race/sex/etc. is just playing the feelgood PR game that, as conservatives, we're supposed to be fighting AGAINST.

Maybe, but based solely on what I'm reading on this thread, what will happen is that the libs and the media will be wetting themselves with excitement tonight, thinking that Specter is on their side.

"Even some of the Republicans are expressing their concerns about Roberts! This throws the whole nomination, widely seen as a shoo-in, into serious doubt!" </MSM spin>

And, Roberts will likely dice Schumer and Kennedy to pieces. This guy is extremely sharp. Schumer is not...

We all said that a month ago and wound up with Roberts. GWB is much to unpredictable to predict what he is going to do with any certainty.

There certainly are a lot of good women to pick from like Brown, Owen, Jones, and Corrigan among others.
