One would think the Vatican would get up of some of it's billions and help out it's own church members...
Gee, it didn't take long for them to come out of the woodwork.

"You fear the man who has a dollar less than you, that dollar is rightfully his, he makes you feel like a moral defrauder. You hate the man who has a dollar more than you, that dollar is rightfully yours, he makes you feel that you are morally defrauded. The man below is a source of your guilt, the man above is a source of your frustration. You do not know what to surrender or demand, when to give and when to grab, what pleasure in life is rightfully yours and what debt is still unpaid to othersyou struggle to evade, as 'theory,' the knowledge that by the moral standard you've accepted you are guilty every moment of your life, there is no mouthful of food you swallow that is not needed by someone somewhere on earthand you give up the problem in blind resentment, you conclude that moral perfection is not to be achieved or desired, that you will muddle through by snatching as snatch can and by avoiding the eyes of the young, of those who look at you as if by avoiding the eyes of the young, of those who look at you as if self-esteem were possible and they expected you to have it. Guilt is all that you retain within your souland so does every other man, as he goes past, avoiding your eyes. Do you wonder why your morality has not achieved brotherhood on earth or the good will of man to man?"
Uh, that's not how it works.
Prayer bump... will contribute when I again am able. Thank you for the ping.

Hardly. I read an interesting article several years ago entitled "Deep Pockets, Short Arms". It was talking about Catholics still thinking of themselves as not affluent, thinking of themselves more like the immigrants their grandparents were. Not so, anymore. Catholics have just never gotten into the habit of giving to their parishes like Protestants have. They think in terms of their Pastors and Assistants taking vows of poverty, so they don't need to help support them as a Baptist Church would it's minister and his family.
It's just an attitude that needs changing. Catholics expect there to be someone there for them, but they're not willing to help support the Parish in basic needs like the education of their children in the Faith, or just keeping up the buildings! Many say they just can't afford to give more until you ask them to actually think about how much they DO give. They're thinking they're giving a lot when they toss a $5 bill in the collection plate each week, then go hop in their brand new car to drive home to their big house with the other two cars in the driveway.
Our Parish was very surprised when the working group from the Parish Council, of which I was a member at the time, did a study and discovered that of 3000 families in the Parish, only 1600 received envelopes for Parish support. Of that 1600, only about 900 donated regularly, and of that 900, the average weekly donation was LESS than $5. Folks were STUNED when they realized that, and it woke a lot of people up to the needs of the Parish. Thankfully, the Parish started teaching the idea of Stewardship, and the people responded very well.
