Hunter describes wounding:I felt the ripple through my body (Wisconsin murder trial day 2 wrap)

In a hushed and transfixed courtroom, Terry Willers described late this morning feeling the impact of Chai Vang's bullet as it hit him.

''In a split second, I felt a burn and felt the ripple through my body,'' said Willers, who was one of two people who survived a confrontation in the north woods of Wisconsin that left six other hunters dead. ''I went to think about moving, and I couldn't move ... the only thing I could think of was that I couldn't help anybody, so I yelled that I'd been hit.

''I felt faint and heard some ringing in my ears and I was thinking 'This was it,' as I heard more shots ringing out.''

He had been shot in the neck, and the bullet had passed through his body and out his back at the shoulder.

There is a group of us here that have been following this story ever since it was breaking news. We have attempted to stay with the facts of the investigation and trial. We have also tried to leave the race issue out of it. We believe that this individual is guilty of four things: 1. Tresspassing. 2. Attempted poaching. 3. Attempted murder. 4. Murder.

There have been some late-comer posts that have been, shall we say, not in the spirit of this place.

Any racial or obscene posts will be removed, if possible. If all else fails, I'll have my threads pulled and I will not start anymore threads on this subject.

Everybody Clear?

Thanks.

Was there ever any decision as to if this guy was connected the the killing of a hunter in Michigan a few years back?

No, but they are looking at a possible connection to another murder of a hunter in Wisconsin a few years earlier.

The killing you are referring to was also in Wisconsin. That incident has sort of disappeared in the story of this trial.

For now.......

So how do you get attempted poaching? He had a deer tag that was used to identify him.

Just wondering.

Thank you for stating this. I've come to know a lot of Hmong through my church, and let me assure you, the ones I know are as horrified and sickened by this as everyone else is.

Or as my wife puts it, as mortified as her Italian immigrant grandfather was by the crimes committed by other Italian immigrants during Prohibition.

Private property.

As an experienced Wi. deer hunter, it is his responsibility to know the laws.

Permanent stands, like the one he was in, are allowed ONLY on private property.

Hunting on private property is poaching.

Sorry.

Hunting on private property without permission is poaching.

My great grandfathers father changed the family name when he came to America immediately before WWI to make it appear less German.

My Father's great-grand parents changed their French surname when they came across so that the Americans could pronounce it.

I think it's clear, he had no intention of obeying laws.

At the time of the shootings, another Wisconsin county had a warrant for Vang's arrest for trespassing while hunting in 2002 and failing to pay the fine.

He also is an owner of hunting land in Minnesota.

Thanks for this.

As a person who lives near the community where this has occured I am speechless to those who may bring race into this.

I also am a deer hunter, and know there are things that should not be condoned on private property.

Vang was certainly tresspassing, and therefore already acting as a danger to other hunters who were in the area.
